Jazz sign another D league dude (Elliott Williams)

The trade for Lin would be a swindle. The sheriff would come looking for DL to lock him up for theft.

I still firmly believe that the Jazz should have traded for Lin instead of Novak (even though they'd just drafted Exum) and added the Rockets 2015 1st round pick, giving them 5 first round picks in the next 3 drafts. It would have been tougher to get Booker, but not impossible.

I'd think that the Lakers would be fine adding another asset for a guy with an expiring contract (that they were paid to take in the first place) IF they think that they can either flip or use Novak. Could also see the Jazz use Evans since he hasn't gotten ANY play so far this season - which is a shame.

His contract was the issue there... his 8 M cap hold isn't bad, but LA had to pay 15 M to him this year... that's an expensive pick. Gobert was had for 3 M or less. Just wait until draft night when teams see their guy is not there and sell a pick cheap.

Regardless of whether you've identified a motive here, I think this is the right way to interpret these little moves. They are likely defensive-stopgaps; I'd guess their main contribution to the team will be felt in practices.

Smart. Get Exum and Trey someone new to practice against.

Agreed. Pretty sure Rubio is even a worse finisher around the basket than Burke. Don't like a Rubio/Exum fit either.

Absolutely. But who they can pick isn't as important as accumulating assets. IMO, Jeremy Lin for $8.3 million cap/$15 million cash on an expiring contract and a lottery protected 1st and 2nd round pick (plus being a good stopgap fit for Quin Snyder) is a lot more palatable than $7 million over two seasons for Steve Novak (to sit at the end of the bench and not contribute all season long.)

The value was not just in the asset acquired, but the value of the player coming in (Lin may be maligned and overpaid, but he's smart and a good fit for QS). Plus there's the financial gain in acquiring a highly popular player for nothing more than taking on a bloated one-year contract.

So Eliot is flying out of salt lake to meet the team in Chicago. He missed shoot around but is expected to dress for the game.

Do you thing the jazz will try out any of the FA that are getting cut? Glen Rice Jr, lance Thomas, or others?

"We learned last year that he was fantastic picking up the ball," Brown said. "He came in with all that athleticism, known more like a slasher and a little bit of a scorer — I learned that he could play defense, and especially full-court defense.
Williams is hoping to pick up where he left off last April. In his final 12 games, Williams averaged 11.3 points, shooting 55.2 percent from the field.

I'd take those contributions!

I would like to see Glen Rice Jr. He had a great summer league and preseason. If only he learned to shoot like his father, though. Apparently Dell was a better teacher to Stephon than Glen was to Jr.

Here is a link to a guy that I assume QS has some history with. He suddenly showed up on the Jazz DLeague team after Kevin Murphy went to China even though he is still Atlanta property. It looks like he put up decent rookie numbers in the NBA and is shooting well down on the DLeague

Elliot Williams had 5 points in 1:45 PT on 2-2 shooting. Did you notice Dante's +- it was the highest on the team. Junior Sapp contributed again.
