Jazz sign Bryce Cotton to Multi Year deal

Well no ****, the point being is they would most likely not have signed him if they didnt have this cap situation and need for a trade asset. So they are obviously going to sign the player they like most, but that doesn't mean they like him that much.

His work ethic is second to none. Deep desire, passion, instilled integrity and a goal oriented young man. This is the difference between drafting kids from stable 4 year college programs(like Providence College) opposed to kids who make a 1-2 year pit-stop at some of these notorious NCAA basketball factories just to kill time and get that 1st round deal so they can smoke weed and hang in strip clubs every night. To me this is the biggest culture change we are starting to see in the NBA/NFL in terms of scouting & drafting. Teams are paying much more attention to a prospects personal life and everyday living habits whether it's through social media, a hired PI, or just old fashioned investigating. Teams are doing much more research on who they decide to sign and give guaranteed millions of dollars to......and rightfully so, why shouldn't they? Gotta know what type of kid/families you can trust and give guaranteed money to. There are players out there who literally hate the sports they compete in. Hate the workouts, coaching, constant aggravation etc. But they still go through with it and hide those facts as long as they can because somewhere along the line someone informed them they have a very good chance at hitting the lottery and making a lot of money. Those are the last kind of players you want to give a guaranteed 3-4 million dollars to. Basically should have just flushed that money down the toilet. Bryce is the COMPLETE opposite. Give him 1-2 years guaranteed and he will make ownership regret not locking him up for 5-6 years when they had the chance at a much more reasonable price tag.
 
So what you're telling me is that all the kids who stay 1-2 years are smoking weed and hanging out in strip clubs, and 4 year seniors are gonna be good players?? Well current history of the draft tells me that you are wrong!

I like Cotton, think he could be a decent backup, but I don't think he'll be more than that. I realize you're a big fan of his, possibly even family, but I think you should tone down your expectations to something just a tad more realistic!
 
I have yet to see him play. Hopefully I can tune in some time when he gets on the court. If nothing else, he ought to be fantastic in the summer league.

Valid point, because he is undersized. Him and Bryce are both about 5'11 in socks only difference one is much quicker/bouncier/athletic and owns an insane 43" vertical which basically allows him to offset his height disadvantage(similar to the way Iverson did) more than other average undersized PG.

Picking up and signing more mature players that don't seem to have off the court issues is not something new to the Jazz. They have avoided certain players as a franchise for as long as they have been around.If he's a high character guy that will bode well for him. He can replace Evans as a hard worker with a good attitude next year. I'd like to see him get a little court time and see what he brings.

First off I was making an obvious general assumption in regards to the strip clubs/weed. Secondly I'd love to hear some of your statistical data on current draft history that does in deed dispute my claim. If you want to really make this a debate we can because I'd be willing to gather the research and willing to bet that statistically, players who do go on to graduate from 4 year college programs make much better choices during their immediate professional careers.(examples: Less arrests for DUI/marijuana possession/less children out of wedlock/better management of their money etc)


it's common sense really....especially if you ever raised a kid

take a 100 kids and put them at good four year academic schools and then take another 100 kids and put them at win-at-all-costs institutions like Oregon/Uconn/Syracuse/Baylor.......go visit all 200 when they're in their 40's and 50's and you will find out which group as a whole lived a more successful and happy life.

the larger point? You're are getting a 22-23 year old player with the maturity and work ethic of a professional and a man.....which if you know this profession most of these guys are just not at that level maturity wise in their early 20's....their priorities are wayyyyy off

I don't know if this is the case with Burke, but I know it's definitely not the case with Bryce.

And no, I'm not related to Cotton. Just a Providence fan that has watched every minute of his college career.
 
I think idiots are gonna be idiots whether they're in school for 4 years or 1. Guys like MKG, AD, Blake Griffin, etc certainly havent had any problems. Chris Anderson played for 4 years. Like I said, idiots are gonna be idiots no matter what.
