Jazzfanz ALL-TIME Fantasy Draft

I'd like to discuss Numb's pick in the down time. To support what I will put into matchup considerations, he already had a top two way player in Duncan & a lesser one in Zo.

-Always an efficient player, but a better scorer and more athletic than remembered in his earlier years

Please convince me, cause I tried to convince myself & would have played it the same. But his offensive stats just don't support it. Vid kind of does though. I honestly was happy he & a couple others went over my favored picks, but I'd love to hear the argument for why I was wrong. Mutombo is treated like Shawn Bradly at times, & that's plain wrong (as well as Bradley's underrated defensive impact).

You're giving too much credit to the general voting populace. Numb does not dictate the winner. It is likely the voters, like most every other thing put to vote, will get this wrong.

We are the voters, & Cyrone, NAOS, YB, a few others. It might be different at other forums but people here are proud of what they put into their thought process.

So maybe we do a distribution of minutes by position and describe the basic offensive/defensive strategies and sets, how we're going to defend certain match-ups, who is the primary scorer, etc. Also, I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure people voting are going to think through the "Reggie will wear your defender out' argument or similar arguments. They might just look and say, 'Drexler will overpower Reggie,' or 'Drexler will post Reggie and draw fouls,' etc. Drexler is on Whiskey's team btw. It's just really hard to predict how things will play out in that much detail without actually playing the games.

Maybe we could keep voting closed for a set amount of time & let everyone argue it over? In reality, who's going to take Pierce over Worthy without any team concept? It was too close for me to decide between the two (who weren't available when I picked) so why would anyone else in the contest auto one or the other?

Also, what about specialty matchups who will kill on one end & be killed on the other? There are only a handful of guys with a both way resume.

^^^ hahahhaa .. "proud of what we put into the thought process"

denial .. this site is no different from any other sub-sect.

I am all about this and drafted players with real in-game strategy in mind. Whether anyone else cares, or participates, I will be trying to do a succinct post on my strategy if we're doing head-to-heads.

In his rookie season, he was gone to a lot and scored 16 ppg on sub-50% shooting (even though it was 49%, and got to the line 7 times a game). 1.36 PPP is pretty good, especially for a rookie. However, it's not great considering his FG% was still sub-50% and as a big, you cannot be considered a viable go-to option if you can't at least pass that mark, and especially so if you're not a great passer (cue Jefferson rant, on top of that he doesn't get to the line...). I think Denver and/or Zeke shied away from using the ogre ball strategy because he was doing a good but not great job. His 12.2 FGAPG that year is his most by a mile, and again, it's not as though he was useless or a poor option. This - in addition to his insane length, mobility, and immense defensive accolades (most DPOY's of anyone) - set him apart from some other defensive greats, Dennis Rodman most notably (I would've grabbed him if he went to round 7, but PKM wanted to blow some minds).

Mutombo's raw offensive production went down in subsequent years but his eFG%, TS%, and PPP went up considerably (.2 PPP in one year, for example). That type of intelligence and dedication to winning basketball is exactly what I love in a player.

Additionally, Mourning could and did guard PFs and on the perimeter, so I had room plenty of room to add a pure C and play Mourning or Duncan as "PF"s. Ultimately, they can all interchange roles, at least defensively.

Beyond that, I don't want to completely reveal my strategy, but let's just say it starts with being a pain in the *** to play, and defense ALWAYS starts on the inside (besides that all of my bigs are intelligent, offensively competent, and play within themselves at worse; and crazy, beast-mode mother****ers at best). I can guard close on the perimeter and go over on screens, for starters, besides some other things. I also believe that the most likely route to success is an elite defense with a very good offense in contrast to the other way around (offense to some degree comes down to luck and defense to a large degree comes down to commitment, which is more bankable without even getting into the psychology of stopping another team more than they're accustomed to being stopped).

I wish we could really watch these games. I personally don't think my team is very sexy looking, but my objective is to give them a fighting chance, which also happens to be the coolest way to win.

Nice looking team so far spycam

Thanks.

I like your team too, though I probably would have chosen Webber over Griffin. He was a better back to the basket player, better passer, better defender, and could actually make a FT. But your team is pretty damn good, even if people don't talk about them a ton.
