What's new

JazzFanz is officially a ghost town

As always the case this time every year, it’s time to switch focus to the NFL (or the Premier League for those outside the US).
Regarding those outside USA, especially the European ones.

Premier League begins on August 15th, so still a couple weeks before one can get hyped about that. Of course there are the last minute trades and transfers, but I guess I am getting old, as those do not get me all exited anymore these days.

Much more excitement to be had with the upcoming Eurobasket tournament. With the exception of France (no Wemby, no Rudy), all participiating countries seem to field their best players. This might be the last chance for Giannis with Greece, and Jokic with Serbia, to win the cup (who knows what their situation is in 2029 when they would have the next chance). Germany, Spain and Slovenia (and France, they have a quality team even without Wemby and Rudy) also having strong claims for the Cup. And then there is always a shocker or two; four years ago Lauri singlehandedly almost dragged the puny Finnish team to the medal games, finally falling to Spain in the Quarter Finals.

Eurobasket begins on August 27th, but the preparation matches begin tomorrow (August 1st). Lauri and Team Finland (with Sean Sheldon again as assistant coach for Team Finland) have their first preparation match next week (August 8th) vs Belgium. I for one will be glued to the TV for the next seven weeks (except on August 29th, when I will be in the sold-out Nokia Arena watching Finland play vs Great Britain; have to remember to take ear-plugs with me this time, so that my ears don't keep ringing for days afterwards (Team Finland fans tend to be loud)), watching quality basketball matches where all players and teams play their hearts out for their countries.
