He kills the momentum on offense--and he's a huge liability on defense.

It's kind of funny to think back on how things worked...out...

Here are several chapters of this story--with a one line summary

Lose Boozer -- Cheers from Jazz fans--the wicked witch is dead!
Sign Al Jefferson - Yay--he's better than Booze at everything!
Jerry Sloan "retires" - We're screwed--I'm starting to hoard food--because the world is going to come to an end
D-Will is Traded - Vindication...and a continuation of the 'we're screwed' feeling when Sloan left
End of Last Season - We're okay--we have veterans and some young guys...we'll be in the lottery again--but that's okay
Start of this season - We suck more than ever could have been imagined--fire Ty--fire KOC...fire everyone
Win first game w/out Al - Get rid of Al--and get a PG

Al's problem is that he is terribly slow on offense and defense. The entire offense stops moving when Al has the ball. He can put up some points, but will also give up as many points or more to the opposing player he guards. It's a shame cause he's a really nice guy (unlike Boozer), but I highly doubt he will accept a bench position. Good luck to you Al, but I hope your time in Utah is done. Maybe he'll excel on a different and older team.
 
A bit of an overreaction. I would trade him if something good came up, but I'm still willing to give him some time. Yeah we played well without him tonight, but I'm guessing we had our first full practice yesterday since losing 2 in a row on back-to-backs. Corbin probably put a lot of effort into practicing the offensive execution last practice.
 
Also, who is knocking on the door right now asking for Jefferson? There may be some, but they are probably hoping to buy low on him. Give him more time and let him improve within the team then maybe trade him then when he gains value.
 
I think KOC needs to be on the phone with the Celtics right now to work out a deal for Rondo. Rondo is always on the block, living in Boston this town LOVES Jefferson, they need to get younger, David West turned down the C's for Indiana, etc. this wouldn't be a straight up trade but I think the C's could be open to bringing Jefferson back.
 
Not on the trading block yet. But we do need to get him out of the starting lineup. I just no longer think he has the Basketball IQ to play for us in a starting role. His is not the set of shoulders Jazz Basketball should be on.

I thought we did great with Milsap and Favors on the floor together.. they appear to play well. I feel like they have better Chemistry than any other big man combination.

So why not bring Jefferson off the bench and get HIM the 6th man of the year award instead of Milsap? Is his Salary the only reason we haven't thought of this before? The second unit is always less structured than the starters, and I think Jefferson would do better there.

I could be wrong, and I'm not afraid of that, but we can not let this guy lead our team.
 
Jefferson for Dalembert

Hi everyone, longtime lurker, first time poster, Jazz fan since '86. I agree with everyone that as offensively talented as Big Al is, he kills ball movement and should probably be traded. Here's my proposal: trade Big Al to Samuel Dalembert of the Rockets and a 1st rounder. Why does it work?

1) He would be reunited with Kevin McHale, who tutored him on his post moves in MN and from what I remember, is still a fan of Big Al; 2) their salaries match up, according to the ESPN Trade Machine; and 3) Dalembert is a defensive center who won't kill ball movement, and has come off the bench before, whereas Big Al most likely won't accept a bench role. And most importantly, he'll allow Favors and Kanters to develop more so than Big Al.

So Favors would be the starting C, boosting his development. Millsap would start at PF, making him happy, and giving him a C who can actually rotate and rebound, 2 things Big Al can't/won't do. I would also put Howard at starting SF, since he obviously plays well with Harris. Hayward at SG also for obvious reasons (playmaker, shotmaker). Dalembert and Kanter would share backup C duties, CJ subs in for Howard and occasionally Hayward, Burks/Bell for Hayward, Watson/Tinsley for Harris. Then watch them develop!
