Jeremy Evans Contract?

When Evans was signed in July, it was a non-guaranteed deal with the Jazz having an option to dump him in January. I would think that the Jazz are going to be keeping Evans around, but has this been made official? Also, would his deal be the 2 year, $470k per deal that I have seen listed, or does that figure get bumped? Thanks for the info! GO JAZZ!

I believe Portland has already offered him an offer sheet.

Sometimes I almost think that is why Sloan never plays him. Like we're trying to keep him a secret from the rest of the league (Portland) so they don't do us all over again. Anybody else have any ideas as to why Evans hardly ever sees the court (besides the fact that he only weighs 145 pounds)? It seems like every time he gets in there he does okay only to get pulled again.

No bump, that's the annual salary. If they were to cut him before January 10 (I think), then they would only pay him for rouhgly half the season.

As far as it being official, the Jazz haven't announced anything, but they don't need to. They only have to take action if they are releasing him, which they won't. Not doing anything = Evans's salary becomes guaranteed for the remainder of season.

I think the weight issue limits his ability to defend most NBA front-court players.

I'm pretty sure you can't offer multiple years on a non-guaranteed deal. I'm pretty sure he has a 2-year guaranteed contract for around the rookie minimum.

Yes its two years, which is just about the time he will really start adding some weight and develop his game. Portland must be licking their chops.

hilltopper06, having seen him play for 4 years at WKU I respect your opinion on Evans more than anyone, and if I recall correctly you had some great info on Evans' game and collegiate career this past summer after Utah drafted him.
Just curious, have you gotten to watch much of Evans with the Jazz and what do you think of his potential in the league?

An overwhelming majority of his points have come on dunks and offensive rebounds, but he did have a nice left-hand jump hook in Portland last week where he also exhibited showed good footwork. I've heard he's shown a solid mid-range jumper in shootarounds as well, but perhaps doesn't have the confidence (or ability) to take it in live-game situations.

I have watched the Jazz at every opportunity this season, and Evans is progressing much faster than I expected. A lot of that is the high quality of coaching that he gets from Sloan and the assistants. Evans is a smart guy and he is very coachable, I only expect him to get better. If the coaches can get him over the confidence block he has with shooting in game, then Evans can be an absolute beast*. I think that an offseason of training and a summer league of dominance will go along way to making Evans into a regular rotation player.

*Dependent on him gaining 15lbs of muscle.

Thanks hilltopper, I share your optimism on Jeremy.
