What's new

JJ Reddick wouu

Lets move on, I'm almost pleading for some of you.

Even though I'm not one of the posters you are referring to, I'll agree to your pleads to stop. But, in exchange, you have to agree to start reading threads and watching basketball games. Deal?

Memo for JJ makes a fair amount of sense... at least enough to discuss on a message board.

It makes sense financially. In a straight Okur swap, the Jazz decrease their overhead by almost 6 million including the tax. Next season, with tension about a new CBA, they drop almost 5 million off the payroll. And in year 3, a 6 million dollar Redick is relatively cheap and tradeable. As a basketball decision it's more questionable. The one advantage is it buys a player in the window of his prime allowing for a relaxed development curve with Honzward. I could see KOC thinking that Bell/Redick/CJ/Hayward signed to reasonable deals being the better alternative to uncertainty with AK and/or having to sign and FA to fill the spot.

I seriously don't think the Magic are THAT desperate.

The same team that just traded for Gilbert Arenas and Hedo Turkolu? I don't think a team could be behaving any more desperately than the Magic right now.

I'm not advocating for the trade. But it's more realistic and reasonable than most of the deals that get floated. 1) We don't know what mandate KOC has to move salary. 2) If there is a mandate, that leaves only AK and Okur as trade chips to slash real salary. 3) Redick is more expendable than he's ever been with the acquisitions of JRich and Arenas. 4) If they were going to move Redick, they'd want to keep him out of the East. 5) Every team likes big for small, and healthy Okur fills a much more important need than Redick. 6) With Okur on board, they can move Bass back to the second unit to shore it up. 7) KOC might not want to move Okur but could argue he's getting a quality player at a position that might need to be filled if AK moves on. 8) Redick's salary helps this year AND next year on the balance sheet. 9) A thin argument can be floated that we have some strength at the backup bigs with Elson/Fes.

It makes more sense than it looks. I don't personally believe the Jazz are willing to be 7 million over the tax. If that's the case, some type of deal like this will go down.

This will work, but wouldn't hold my breath... https://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3yh9y9f
I agree about Elson; he and Watson are both playing consistanly in the minutes alloted them. Plus, Elson's able to play some PF too. Not sure we want to trade Okur, as we'd be losing his length in the paint. And this deal actually adds more years to our bloated salary situation, although it'll ease up in a yer with AK expiring. Sure would strengthen our SG situation though, and Redick has greatly improved his defense and penetration/dish skills in the last 2 years. His only weakness is man-to-man D, but Hornacek was undersized and we managed...

It's also been discussed at least 5 times each and every year for the past 4 years.

We can get more out of Memo. JJ at the very most is a slightly more mobile KK. He's NOT at all Jeff Hornacek. I love how you people compare these white shooters to Hornacek. As if Korver and JJ had been 20 point scorers in their careers. Hornacek was a well known shooter and scorer in the league for most of the 1990's.

Comparing Korver and JJ to Hornacek would be like comparing Deshawn to MJ. They're both black and can jump. Likewise, Korver and JJ are white and can shoot. Other than that, they have no other similarities.

EVANS?!??!??!?? Why in the heck would you consider putting him in package?

Switch Evans for Hayward and I could see this happening although yuck for the jazz salary wise.

Enough with these hypothetical trade scenarios. Barring a major injury or a player confrontation with Sloan, the Jazz won't be making a significant trade this season. Not until they find out how Okur fits in with this team and continue to get Al more comfortable in our system.

Would anyone like to take me up on a bet that the Jazz WILL NOT make a trade involving their top-9 players and 2 rookies (the 5 starters, plus Miles, Watson, Okur, Elson and then Hayward & Evans) before the trade dealine?
Anyone? Loser doesn't post on the board for a month.

No arguement from me. As we likely will see the Lakers come playoff time, we will need all the length we can muster. Besides, I want to see Okur and Jefferson on the court TOGETHER; could be a dynamite combo, with Millsap and Elson, and Fes off the bench. If Hayward continues to develop at SG, we could be a team nobody wants to see come playoff time...

Did the OP lose their train of thought on the subject line, or pass out?

I think it was supposed to be - JJ Reddick, would you take him? And it was more like JJ Reddick.. wou.. uhh...

Reddick is massively overpaid. A nice player but makes twice what he should. We already have enough players making twice what they should :)
