Joe Johnson Coming to Utah

Not sure if anyone posted this yet. I just got back to a computer. Here it is (at least the small paragraph about the jazz) if not:

Utah Jazz

1. Agreed to sign forward Joe Johnson to a reported two-year, $22 million deal (Friday)
i
After targeting Dudley, Deng and Hill and watching each go off the market, the Jazz moved quickly to reach an agreement with Johnson.
My read is that the third year was a big negative for Utah, which sees a world where Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert and Gordon Hayward will all be making max money in 2018-19 -- when Dante Exum would also be starting a possible extension.
Johnson is an interesting fit with the Jazz. Given that Utah was looking primarily at combo forwards, I wonder if they see Johnson filling that role, which is probably better for him than playing exclusively on the wing at this stage of his career. Johnson is strong enough to defend bigger opponents, and the decline in his quickness isn't a concern against them while his shooting is also more of a plus.
Between Johnson and George Hill, the Jazz have added a lot more shooting this offseason to go around a young roster while maintaining flexibility for when their young stars start making more money.
Utah still has almost $14 million in possible cap space, but the roster is close to full, other than maybe another big man to compete with Trey Lyles and Jeff Withey for bench minutes. The Jazz could use the remaining space to renegotiate and extend the contracts of Favors and/or Hill.

Try not to get too high or low from the free agent signings, but i remember thinking at the time that this guy could come in handy at the end of tight games...

Man, what a great off season signing by DL. George has been great too, but the injury has hampered him. I really hope we keep most of this team together.

A lot of optimism right now, and that's great. But mark my words, JF will sour on him within a month.

Personally, I think it's an okay deal. A 35 year old chucker with decent shooting %s for 11m. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hindsight: JJ might be the least soured upon free agent signing in Jazz history

His deal is looking like a damn bargain at this point. Can you imagine how much he'd make in free agency if the Jazz had just gone with a one year deal?

I remember when I wanted Solomon Hill smh.

Can probably get him now... plus a first round pick if we wanted.

Many of us have wanted free agents who ended up sucking. Honestly Hill's on court situation is terrible... I was happy with JJ and didn't realize what a freakin pro this guy was.

I like this. He is a solid player in his career. A good vet presence to have around. He can still play and has good length. He will be really good for Hood and Hayward. He is also tradeable to a team making a push next season if we want to ditch his contract. I wish we had got some other players but I think this is a solid FA get for the Jazz and he will help us win. Love seeing Jazz going into win mode and being aggressive. This team is going to push for home court this year. Here comes 4th seed!

Whew, I saw I had a post in this thread and thought it might be embarrassing but I did alright. Well on this one...
