John Hollinger Thinks Conley May Opt Out

It’s about constructing a team to compete for a title over the next 6-10 years. Not next year. When we have no shot anyway.
Certainly not if we haven’t plugged the hole at the 4 and 5, are playing two small guards next to each other during the game’s most important stretches, are chronically unathletic, and unwilling to shake up the game plan.

I’m cool with Conley staying and being a significant contributor but the idea that he’s this amazing player that needs to start/end is totally ****ing wack.

This.

Philly could also bail us out. We either take Horford or find a third team. This seems like the mostly likely Conley trade to me.
I wouldn’t say taking on Horford’s ****** deal is bailing us out of anything. It would absolutely require re-routing him for that description to apply.

You’re right. And he has more cousins part of a vast conspiracy to juice his stats and pay off opponents to make him look good.
You are smoking crack if you think just because a guy scores super efficiently and has good length defensively that’s it’s help us win. Points don’t win games veterans past their primes do.

Yeah, Conley is going to give us a better shot at a ring for the next 4 years (if the jazz are able to re-sign) then Wood would be able to.

I just watched the playoffs and it was dominated by 6’ guards. Skilled athletic bigs were a complete non factor. We should look for even more old small guards.

You look for the best players. Certain posters here have made Conley a scapegoat and it's ridiculous. For people who should be smarter, there is a lot of grass is greener over dudes who are putting up stats on terrible teams who dont even fit this team. There should be a lot more excitement about what Conley is going to do next year after his excellent bubble run.

The Jazz need to look to get more athletic on the wings. That's should be the focus, not adding another 5 man like Wood (though like I've said numerous times, if he wants to be Rudy's backup, I'd welcome him with open arms).

Like we have all said though, this is really trivial since he has no chance of coming here.

Sure, if the Jazz can magically get a player better than Conley then that wont be the case.

That guy isnt Christian Wood.

I’m getting interested in the idea of Horford + minor haul of assets + improved financial flexibility this offseason + improved defense instead of.... Conley.

Mike is going to make a lot of people look really silly next year. The dude is still really good. If you can secure him as a long term backup PG after this coming season, you absolutely do it. And if doing so happens to also give you extra financial breathing room for 20/21, that’s just free money.

The problem is that we already have two old guys on medium sized contracts in joe and Bojan. We add 17 for mike then we have to be completely committed to the current core because there will be absolutely no flexibility for the entirety of Dons new contract. Which to be quite frank is a dismal thought. It doesn’t matter how good mike is or isn’t because the fit is wrong and Mitchell is ready to be the point and control the ball. We need to be looking for a big defensive guard to pair with him like Eric snow for AI was rather than another small scoring guard.
