John Lucas III - Why would Jazz bring him back for 2nd year???

A tweet from the Trib and also from The Score say that there are indications the Jazz are going to bring John Lucas III back for the second year of his deal if his contract isn't used in a trade.

I hope that means that his contract is used in a trade somehow.

He's under contact for over a million bucks so of course they are brining him back. They aren't just going to cut him.

Apparently he makes young PG's feel good about themselves.

You'd feel good about yourself if you thought the vet at your position had no chance of stealing your spot.

Watch out for those air punches, though.

Maybe the FO views JLIII's air punches as a show of toughness, and our hoping his "grit and grizzle" will wear off on our pack of pansies.

LMAO LOLOL

If they do so then I hope he is the thrid string PG behind Burke and Neto.

Would rather have Garrett tbh.

Tank 2.0?

At the least, it is the "year of discovery" 2.0

Our team could very well be:

Favors
Kanter
Hayward (if retained)
Burks
Burke
Gobert
Evans
Clark (if they pick up his option)
JLIII (if they pick up his option)
Neto (in SLC now. May come over)
Tomic (lots of talk that this could be his year)
Pick #5
Pick #23
Pick #35

That's 14 players. Then there are those others like E. Murphy and M. Thomas.

With such limited space available, it seems crazy that Jazz would be considering JLIII's deadweight again.

I doubt we see the roster as it is above, but Jazz definitely have some decisions ahead of them. Might as well just rip the band-aid off now. I think we'll see heavy use of our new DLeague hybrid this year, with the less polished rotating in and out of those couple spots we can put down there and still keep rights to.

Boooooo. Garrett and Neto OR Garrett and Exum OR Neto and Exum OR any combo of Garrett, Neto, Exum, and another vet or rookie...

Just not the Lucas the 3rd.

I don't understand bringing him back. There will be better free agents suited for the third PG position. Heck, there will be better undrafted rookies better suited for the third PG position than JLIII.

And if Neto's here or we draft Exum we don't need JLIII. That is common sense.

I agree. Don't understand it. They have Burke and can easily have Neto and Garrett on the team next year. Not to mention the possibility of drafting Exum or Smart.

All of those players are better than Lucas.

Do we really have to explain this again?

When you have a really young team, coaches want veterans at the end of the bench.

When you have a veteran team, you want young players at the end of the bench.

We are a young team.

I never understood why they signed him. He isn't even a good DLeague guy. Oh yea for the tank.. but there is zero reason to bring him back.

Anger... How did we pay 1.6 M per for this guy for two years, but didn't bring back Carroll for 2.5 M. This guy needs to be used in a trade or waived. We can get a veteran who doesn't suck... maybe someone that could teach the young guys how to run a team instead of chucking. Or they could give me the money and I'll be a super great example and cheer really loud.
