Journalist or stenographer?

Speaking of failures in modern journalism, there is a new phenomenon in media that is AI generated articles. I came across this one today and there is no way this thing wasn't spit out by a computer algorithm.

The story itself is heartbreaking and speaks to the discussion going on in another thread about the bigger problem being school boards or the parents outraged at the actions being taken by school boards. I clicked on the link to the author's page and noticed this author had "written" 5 stories this hour. Robots may be coming for all our jobs but based on the quality of this article, they're not there yet.

It's true that most media is guided as much by the dollar as by the truth, at least here in the US. NPR is a refreshing change of pace.
NPR is my go-to. Easy to listen on the way to and from work.

But I do hate pledge week. I know it's necessary, and I'm already a "sustaining member", donating $50 a month automatically. But man the constant "tele-thonning" just grates.

Thankfully only 2 weeks a years.

Oddly enough, once I started contributing (doing so much later than I care to admit), I felt less guilty about changing the station during pledge week.

I'm surprised if anyone is surprised by this, really. The message is almost always curated. Real journalism is hard to find anyway. The fact that it is being parsed by politicians isn't particularly shocking at all. In fact my bet is the only reason this came to light was someone went back on the I'll-wash-your-back wink-wink relationship they've always had so now it's time to "out" them as a new shocking thing.
