July 7th, Summer League Game 1: Utah vs. Miami

My takeaways from this game

1. Burke can get into the lane and around the 1st man consistently. As the game progressed he started to adjust to the speed of the game and dropped some passes for dunks. I think in time he will adjust and be able to score. Defensively he was okay. He tracked down a lot of loose balls for rebounds.
2. Jeremy Evans hasn't really improved and isn't a real NBA player. He can only do straight line drives, Alley-oop dunks and stand still jumpers. If he could rebound and not be overpowered all the time, then he could be a backup. As it is I don't think he is worth playing in the real league.
3. Gobert is an impactful defender on the pick and roll. He also can be an effective help defender. He needs to improve his awareness- he over rotated some times. He has no offensive game at all. If he was stronger he could be used to play some minutes.
 
Yeah, I'm seriously pissed. Again, I guess it's my fault for thinking that a grown adult knows how time zones work.

I guess I didn't miss anything good, even though this is probably the only game I would've been able to see.
 
I'm encouraged that Burke had 7 rebounds, but it's way too early to draw any conclusions from that. Chris Paul has a knack for grabbing boards despite his size.

I think you guys are acting like we can not criticize burke in this game.
I don't see people calling him a bust or saying that he sucks but if numb were to ask for a recap on how burke played IN THIS PARTICULAR GAME then you would have to say he looked pretty bad.
That's all..... no need to act like there are all these burke haters all of a sudden due to him getting criticized for one crappy game.
We are just talking about what we saw TODAY, not predicting his future based off today

He averaged 10.4 PPG / 8.8 RPG / 1.4 APG / 1.2 SPG and 0.8 TPG in just around 25 minutes per game. He shot 50 percent from the floor and 67 percent from free throw line. He was pretty good.

Yea that is pretty good. But my point was that you can't judge a player by this SL. Lots of people were stating he looked slow, I was one of them. And my point is from my own experience that the SL isn't a fair judge and that Kanter was much better after the SL.

As NDY posted, his rebound and assist totals were good. He'll be just fine going forward. Three things I took out of today:

1) Alec Burks was playing PG when Burke first rested. That surprised me a bit. Perhaps the Jazz DO see Alec as a combo guard who can play the backup PG position.
2) Gobert is not quite as raw as I thought. Guy is going to be a solid rotation player going forward. He was a force around the rim and was coming out to set picks.
3) For the most part, the Jazz defense was very solid. I know it's just SL, but any improvement is encouraging.

Other players I thought had solid outings: Roberts, Christamas and Mahalbasic.

I was commenting on a single play. It showed me that his focus wasn't where it should have been. Maybe he was overthinking his first NBA game or maybe his missed shots were playing with his head, but a point guard is supposed to push any advantage he can. He missed it. I don't expect him to make that mistake again, unless of course he never corrects it because no one sees it.

I'm not taking notes on who said what but some have been pretty dumb. Scientifically speaking.
