What's new

Just bought this fixer upper.... ideas?

(I love how people who have never had children are so quick to point out parental deficiencies, and give such sage advise on how to, and usually not to, raise a family.)
.

You mean it's not just me that wants to punch people in the throat for doing this?

Tires look like they're worth more than the rest of the vehicle.

Appears as if there is some rust on the frame, that's going to be the biggest problem.

Can't really see the axels or differentials, but the body looks like ****. I hate how the front end is lower than the rear, but that's just personal preference. Your entire body needs to be buffed out, get the rust off and then painted again. Just a guess, but I would imagine the shocks are in bad shape, and I can't imagine the engine or transmission are in good shape either.

As for ideas…that type of vehicle just isn't my thing. I'm assuming you want it for the dunes by Moab and whatnot?

An off road cruiser.. ya.

Bro, tow that to my driveway, leave 5g's in the ashtray, and come back in 3 months. I promise.

That sounds like a plan bro.. i'll hit ya up and discuss over a beers.

^
Do this PKM. My instincts tell me it would come out epic.

I think so.. but Duck and Hant think it's ugly... what a boi tado?

This one doesn't show all the front and rear armor, the winch, etc.. but for now.. this is our get outta dodge (pun intended) truck.

that looks just like something my boys had that was powered by a battery pack and controlled by a joy-stick

have fun

I'm not car savvy at all, but I really hope my retirement will be punctuated by fixing one car after another. So many cars from the 50s-80s that I've always loved, and would really enjoy restoring.

Amen.. for fun, my dad and I restored tons of cars;

Chevelles
GTX
superbird
dozens of GTOs
firebirds
trans ams
50's trucks
my favorite was a '59 caddy conv.... bought it for $12k, put $11k in it, sold it for $90k. Cool car.

We immigrated to Canada in '95, so we went through used car after used car-- my dad basically taught himself how to fix cars out of necessity, and we have never taken a car to a mechanic in ~20 years of living here.

There was always something going wrong with our cars earlier, and our relatives would bring in their cars to be fixed, so I grew up watching him take cars apart.

He hasn't really had a "project car" yet, but our neighbour across the street has this 1974 AMC Javelin AMX rotting away in his driveway, and I'm trying to convince the old man to take it under his wing.

Of the cars you've mentioned, I'd love to see a restored Chevelle SS.

I've kinda always wanted to see a restored Buick GNX as well. I have a soft spot for the 80s. Probably the last solid American muscle IMO.

With that said, >95% of the cars I'm interested in restoring one day, are European.

Haha.. could soooo see you driving that.

Hahahaha srs? I've seen maybe one other AMC car in my entire life. There's none of em here in Canada. No idea what their stigma is, or anything.

My roommate in college had one..... it was in great condition and fast as ****.
We took it to Vegas and got it up to 125 mph.

Only seated 2 people though and was a weird copper/orange color.

Cool car though and very rare to see another one on the road

Bad. ***. Those things are so rare that I bet even ChrisLol and Bronco don't know wtf it is. Only reason I do is because my neighbor had one growing weeds in his back yard for ten years.

Anyway, are you going to **** it up with a roll cage? I would, but that would probably take all the badassery out of the thing.

I had a 64 Nova. Only had 25k miles. Literally was sitting in a barn. Wish I had kept it.

The one across the road is a copper colour too, actually. And yeah, it's a bummer that it's a two-sweater-- I'd prefer a 2+2.

It's not my favourite American car of that era, but I find em pretty cool, and it's super accessible + hard to find. Pretty ideal car to restore IMO, especially for a first go around.
