What's new

Just say noah to Noah Vonleh

I have to admit, I kind of liked Vonleh coming out of college. I had him mocked around the Jazz range last year. I still think he can be good. Lets see if Portland will go full tank/development mode and give him a ton of minutes next season.

Noah Vonleh is 19 and started out injured, yall really like to jump to conclusions.. Don't try and reduce my thoughts on the 2014 draft to just one player, that I had rated 5th..

I never wavered in having Wiggins #1 can y'all say that? people had fatty Jabari higher. Some even thought Gordon was better than Wiggins citing a lack of killer instinct. And of course many had Gordon over Dante Exum, who I had 4th.

Did I not have Rodney Hood rated over McDermott and Stauskas (very unpopular opinion at the time)??

Aaron Gordon's 3pt shooting fell off a cliff after the all-star game last year lets see how it holds up, its early. I'll still remind ya that I was first to post Aaron Gordon footage on Jazzfanz..

Was I not high on Clint Capela? How about Walter Tavaras and Bogdan Bogdanovic, 2 international players I thought were worth securing in the first rd, was I wrong about them?

Always considered myself high on LaVine, Elfrid Payton, Jusuf Nurkic, T.J. Warrren, Spencer Dinwiddie, and I was certainly always high on and promoting Jordan Clarkson..(and Jabari Brown) I remember posting the story about their parents both having cancer.

I preferred Jerami Grant to K.J. McDaniels, and apparently so did the 76ers. Thought one was 1st rd grade and one wasn't. I preferred PJ hairston to Jordan Adams in similar fashion, But always had Bogdan Bogdanovic over either..

Tyler Ennis, was someone I was looking at as a 4 star recruit, thinking he'd do well replacing MCW.. I surely was mentioning him early and often during the process.

Me and Hantlers were making posts about Josh Huestis pre-draft, thats it. I liked his ability to block shots and shoot, he got drafted in the first. Much to my chagrin. Me and Hantlers were the ones who originally were speaking on Elfrid Payton too, months before some of his louder advocates realized. I was following the story shortly after the CP3 camp snub.

Who was on Jazzfanz talking about Zach LaVine or even speculating him as a lottery talent before me? People fought me tooth and nail about him getting drafted in the 1st round, for similar reasons listed at the start of this thread for Vonleh (lack of 20 point games..)

Have I not made at least made a bunch of good predictions from that draft? I was also all about trading for a pick high enough to promise Kristaps Porzingis and made multiple posts about Jerian Grant who was projected as a late 2nd round pick in the 2014 thread.

TL;DR - I had Gordon and Vonleh both in the top-10, just like OP. However, somehow, I'm wrong, and he's precisely correct... (after 1 season!)

^^^ A lot of the non-lottery players you named up there that you "hyped" are scrubs dude. Don't be so excited to point out that you liked Walter Tavares, Clint Capela, Spencer Dinwiddie, Josh Huestis, Tyler Ennis, Jabari Brown, etc.

You do have some nice calls, Antetokounmpo and LaVine. You also have guys like Len on your resume who had one of the highest ratings ever on your board or something like that as well as being the #1 player in that class, iirc. I definitely think you are making a hyperbole of the Gordon love on here, people loved him, but don't remember anyone saying he would be better than Wiggins. You call Jabari Parker a fatty, yet he will end up being the 2nd or 3rd best player in the class.

If you continue to hype a ton of players of course you will be right on some of them. I love how you are quick to point out your so-called "good projections", but never once have I seen you point out the countless players you were wrong on.

Also, you projecting players to go in the first round that went in the first round means nothing to me. Anyone can look at a few draft sites and predict about 20 guys who will get drafted in the first.

Seems like this is all very premature. Lets dig this up in 5+ years. Then maybe you can claim something.

Who was I really wrong on?! surely you're being shallow and pedantic about some player I had rated not far off from consensus.. or nitpicking some lesser fringe talent...

whole heartedly disagree on Jabari ending up the 2nd or 3rd best player in the class, he was shooting the ball like **** before that injury. I'd rather gamble on Embiid, for sure.

There was certainly ****#hungry posters going well beyond reason with the Gordon admiration, one might say it was being spammed here.

I could've done better in 2013, fasho. Injuries have affected these last few drafts. I didn't know what to make of Nerlens knee, I posted many times he had the best hands on defense you will see from a 6'11 player, and still stand-by that.. I thought WCS might drop in this past draft due to injury concerns and was wrong. How can I sweat that sorta stuff though? I'm not a doctor and I don't have any trustworthy premium info.

Robert Upshaw is the player I have rated highest over consensus this year, we shall see how that goes. TBH - I can't really detail his 'heart condition' or character concerns all that well. I just saw him get a ****load of blocks and rebounds and became convinced it might translate to the pros.

Was I not posting about Rudy, saying 'If the Jazz took him 14th i'd be cool with it'.. I admit to overestimating his FT shooting slightly at the time though...

Did I not have Dennis "17 points in the 4th q of a playoff game" Schroder way over consensus? FWIW always had Sergey Karasev well under consensus:p... many here swore by Reggie Bullock, and claimed Trey made Tim Hardaway Jr. look good.

let the record show I never bought an ounce of Glenn Robinson Jr lottery hype that year either!

Who detailed the Pre-Jazz struggles of Trey more than Me? Got my first infraction in the thread comparing him to Chris Paul.. Perhaps Trey fixes the awful shot selection and proves me wrong. I made a point to rate him under consensus, IIRC Trey was an 89, MCW was a 91 and Schroder was a 95.. Certainly, over the years, many here have caught onto what I was pointing out about Trey... we shall see how it plays out.

How many misses on scrubs is it worth a Jerian Grant call anyways??? I was high on R.J. Hunter for the 2014 draft too FWIW, when he was projected in the 2nd - thought he looked fringe 1st rd. Also was I not posting that Jordan Clarkson looks worthy of a 1st rd pick last year???

I managed to deduce that Porzingis looked like a better prospect than WCS, last year.. wanna try to throw shade at that? I was also high on Mario and posting about him in 2013, when posters such as Cy called him euro trash, 'not draftable in the 2nd round' and said because of his attitude he's not an NBA player.

TL;DR I've made my fair share of good calls. If you choose to focus on one or 2 you don't agree with, so be it, doesn't surprise me. Many people choose to live in denial.

I was all about drafting Vonleh. I still think he's going to be good. Only time will tell. Now that he's on a new team and is healthy we'll see how he does.

Vonleh lacks the attitude. He might flourish in Portland though, it's a good fit with Lillard.

We all know Gordon is better than Vonleh though. Even PGAB knows this, though he probably doesnt want to admit it yet.

Never loved Vonleh, but I still think he'll be a decent player eventually. People are real quick to write off 19 y/o. Plus, I doubt a lot of us here followed his rookie season really closely. I'm sure there's a ton of passive fans around the league looking at Exum's 1st year stats and saying he sucks, whereas around here's we're all bullish on the kid.

It's not like Charlotte gave away Vonleh for nothing. Batum is a great player when he's right.
Early indications seem to be Gordon will be the better player, but Vonleh has such elite physical tools, could keep getting
a little better every year like Favors did.

If you walk like you belong in a Jurassic Park movie your body is not going to last through an NBA season.

has this thread suddenly become one about Miles Turner?

Vonmeh is worse than Turner. If you want to go back and find it this was the major issue I had with Vonmeh in the 2014 draft thread. Dude is awkward. Portis has a little Vonmeh in him.

Edit:Turner is different. I wouldn't call him jurassic park. I think he moves more like the terminator. It's mechanical. Vonmeh looks like he has an invisible tail.
