Kanter's Potential

. How many truly good offensive centers do we have in the NBA right now that are considerably taller or longer than Kanter?

-Dwight Howard
-Nene (not sure he's much taller or longer than Kanter)
-The Gasol Brothers
-Bynum
-Andrew Bogut

Chris Kaman, Brook Lopez.

We should get a better idea of how tall he actually is at the scrimmage Saturday. No point in trying to figure it out from these sketchy photos.

Maybe he was wearing different shoes at media day. At the end who cares how tall he is? To me he is suited to play PF not a Center. But so was Antoine Carr and yet he was played at center a lot. Is Joel Anthony at 6'9 a center? No but Miami plays him there. Was Ben Wallace at 6'9 a center? Chuck Heyes anyone?

Oh boy.. where do I start?

Obviously it's not "that" exact photo that they're looking at. The article talks about a number of "head on" photos?

For example, here's one with Burks showing Kanter only a few inch taller than Burks who's 6'6:

etc, etc, etc..

Not saying a picture does not lie, but is it really possible that he is that short compared to Burks? Something does not seem right with that photo either. How can he measure at 6'11 officially but shrink 3 inches since? If he is really only 6'9 in shoes then the Jazz really f'd up this pick, but I still believe he is the 6'11 he measured at the combine. Watching his euro league games he appeared larger than 6'9 as well.

Who knows? He did look tall enough against Jefferson here:

Having seen that though, the article still says that Kanter "Looks about an inch shorter than 6'10 Jefferson"

Who knows..

Agreed. Not sure how you can screw up by 2 inches at the combine. I think what we should really be taking into account is that Al Jefferson is probably taller than we think. Apparently he himself says that he's "half an inch to an inch" taller than Kanter; would make sense too, seeing that he was drafted out of high school.

Again, looks can be deceiving. While it appears Al and Kanter are the same height, Kanter has a deceptively pointy head that hides almost an inch. Lets stick with the DX measurements rather than dealing with optical illusions and such eh?

Okay, I've been around Kanter a hella lot. He's not 6'11 .. regardless of the measurements. Close, I'd say, but he's shorter than Cousins and roughly the same size as Harrellson. I'd guess him a hair over 6'10 .. though I never broke out the tape measure.

I never brought it up because there was already enough Kanter doubters/haters. Also, it didn't bother me one bit because he is one of the hardest working post men I've seen. Couple that with his lower body strength and understanding of leverage, and the 1/2 inch didn't bother me at all.

Do you think he's a PF or a C in the NBA? I'm curious.

Coach Cal's been quoted as saying he's BIG and you can't teach SIZE. But I just take that with a grain of salt most of the time..

I think he's a PF/C tweener. Specifically, a defender of most PF's and an offensive C (with range). I think fanz tend to get too caught up with position. Depending on matchups .. things are simply fluid.

Alright.. (rolls eyes..)

Well then re-ask your question. I thought I answered, but I may have missed it. And save your eye rolling for your mom and girlfriend.

Your floor and ceiling prediction on Kanter?

I mean of course as of now he's a PF/C tweener. Just like how Jefferson is a PF/C tweener, or Hayward/Miles is a SG/SF tweener, the list goes on..

My question was more if you had to choose a position that the coach can say to him "OK - go be the best PF/C in the NBA", a position that he can concentrate on, hone his skills and really thrive in, night in, night out, what would it be.
