Kanter's Potential

Never felt so dumb. Still don't get it. Don't abandon me in my quest for understanding.

Sorry, I was asking an honest question. I want a player comparison for best and worst case scenario. I asked because you have seen him a lot more than just about anyone on this MB.

I mean of course he's a PF/C tweener. Just like how Jefferson is a PF/C tweener, or Hayward/Miles is a SG/SF tweener, the list goes on..

My question was more if you had to choose a position that the coach can say to him "OK - go be the best PF/C in the NBA", a position that he can concentrate in and really thrive in, night in, night out, what would it be.
Let me see if I can help here:

I think fanz tend to get too caught up with position. Depending on matchups .. things are simply fluid.

Because his natural skillset is more offensive than defensive (what most here call shot-blocking .. and makes me gag a bit) I'd say PF. I guess I just don;t get the concept ..

Let me explain ........ There may be matchups that Burks can play PG (but he's a 2). Some feel Hayward is a 2 .. some nights he is, others he's a 3 .. Millsap, Jefferson ..

wow .. it's about coaching IN game.

Very hard to pigeon hole Kanter (or anyone else). Unless this is nothing more than message board fooder (only) .. Kanter is a 4/5, depending on matchups.

I'll admit it, I was on the "Draft Kanter" bandwagon, but I am scared to death to see him play in an NBA game. If the guy isn't tall enough to be a center, and his future is at the 4 spot, why did we draft him. Seeing some of the media day photos, it looks like Okur, Jefferson, and Favors all towered over him. Man, I hope we didn't blow the third pick.

He could be our future 4, Favors 5....

I think the main thing is that going forward everyone should feel more than comfortable with our size when Favors and Kanter are on the floor together...

Potential?

I'd say it is a mix of Dwight Howard, Dirk, and (and who else did Kanter describe himself as???)

Personally, I think he should shoot for Luis Scola. A dude that eats rebounds, is very active, can hit the jumper, and can score a lil in the post. These comparisons to elite players need to be shelved for a few more years. Not too realistic. But comparisons to good role players? Sure.

He didn't describe himself as those players .. he did say he has a couple elements of each of their games, iirc.

Personally I think this is closer to Kanter's floor. The other upside is Scola is barely 6'9". Kanter is 6'11".

I have no expectations for Kanter this season, but the worst thing that can happen is to see him, healthy, sitting behind the bench in his street clothes. If he's healthy, he should dress for every game.

Somebody will have to sit. Might actually be the 3rd string PG this year.

Ideally, Raja Bell should never dress, but that's not going to happen. If it comes down to a time where everyone is "healthy" and the Jazz are not in the middle of a big stretch of 4 games in 5 nights or a 3 in 3, then Jeremy Evans should be the one to sit. During those hellacious 4 in 5 or 3 in 3, I would not be opposed to having Memo sit occasionally to give his heel/back a rest.

Kanter described his game as having Gasol's postmoves, Dirk's shooting and Dwight Howard's toughness.
Again, Kevin Willis IMO.

I think thats why he said he wishes to acclaim to. I don't think he ever said, straight-up, that he possesses those attributes.

I would be ecstatic if he became a Kevin Willis type player with a jump shot. That player is extremely valuable in the league IMO, like one who can make multiple all NBA teams (at least 3rd teams, if not 2nd).

PKM, you are beating around the bush.....
Gasol, Bynum, Howard, Bogut, Jordan, Lopez, Gortat, Oden, Cousins, Hibbert - those are the centers that matter off the top my head, against which of these guys would Kanter ideally be matching up against?

Fran Frachilla: "When you watch the NBA is there a player that you say 'I play like him?'"
Enes Kanter: "I would say Pau Gasol's post moves and Dirk's shot."

I'm not beating around the bush at all. Do you seriously not get the idea of matchups? Sheesh.

Having said that, I was in the gym, standing no more than 20' away when Kanter played against Cousins. No, it wasn't a game that counted, but both players were serious about getting the best of each other. These two are great matchup and fun to watch. Both are huge. Both have lots of mass. Both have shooting touch. Both have a mean streak. Both are unbelievable rebounders. Neither have explosiveness. Neither have extraordinary lift. Kanter definitely got the better of Cousins on that day (no one disagreed, except Cousins). The difference between the two? Cousins was a ever-so-slightly better rebounder and Kanter destroyed Cousins when it came to working his *** off on every possession.

Who do I think is a bad matchup? I guess someone who has a superior floor game or effective hook. Kanter uses his bulk and strength to keep his guy from getting easy baskets at the rim.

What do you want me to say? HE IS A POWER FORWARD. Or. HE IS A CENTER. I don't get the fascination .. what is Hayward? what is Millsap? what is Favors, for that matter.

Willis played til he was like 45 so that would not be to bad.
