Keyonte George’s Star Ascension

Listening to Hoop Collective and the Zach Lowe podcast and their talk about the weak trade market for Trae Young, and the really low likelihood of Trae being able to get anything like max money on his next contract, I think there are implications for Keyonte’s extension with the Jazz. There’s just a limit to how much you invest in an offensive engine that plays zero defense. Maybe Key sees that and commits to work harder in defense in the future. Otherwise it seems like the Jazz will have a good argument that one way player key is maybe $30 mil type money but nothing close to a max player. Trae Young ends up being a pretty powerful cautionary tale.
Trae is also much much smaller than Keyonte, and plays less well off the ball. The rookie scale max is also different than vet maxes. If Keyonte hasn't improved his defense at all a few years from now it'll be a problem, but I don't really think it's likely he makes no progress at all on that side. Effort level looks better this year to me.

what did lauri do in his third year? and fourth?

The infamous Jim Boylen (Bulls HC at the time) told him to bulk up, which almost destroyed his career. He became a lumbering meat mountain and lost most of the mobility that makes him so special for a 7 footer. (Morgan Freeman voice: "And that was the last anyone heard of Jim Boylen.")

On the Cavs he was mostly back to his old self, but they had a lot of mouths to feed so he got lost in the shuffle.

Just a quick little fun fact for all of the people who for some reason still Don’t believe Key can play point guard this season he’s averaging more assists than Shai has ever had and .1 less than Kyrie Irving’s career high in year three

Look at the 6-8 picks in the last 10 drafts. How many are worse than Exum and Cody?
Ya that was a dumb question. The reason I think the 6 or 8 pick or whatever will be better than exum or cody is because they usually are.

Don't look now but Key is averaging 5.7 turnovers in the last three games and Lauri had 4 and 5 in the last two (his career average is 1.4).

Both are playing like they're tired IMO.
