What's new

KG3 / Kessler = Young Don / Rudy?

Maybe this early in his career probably not much. All he needs though is a few attempts this year (20/30). And then slowly go from there if it falls in. If he is just a decent 3-point shooter it can help his offense and team's offense tremendously 3-4 years down the road.

In that last part of the video, he got corner 3 10 in a row. The mechanics look pretty decent too.

Edit: 14 in row.
Fingers crossed

I wish I could see a side by side of his form from the season and at Auburn. He seems to have made it more compact and he is starting the shot higher. It looks better. At very least we will see it at the FT line.

Nothing in Kessler's profile suggests he will ever be a consistent shooter. I'm not sure his time is well spent trying to become... What? 30% shooter? If I was him I'd be working on FT shooting much more than the 3...
His time is very well spent working on all perimeter shots.

But how good does he need to be for Hardy to actually allow it?

He has publicly said the 3pt shot has ruined more careers than it has made, and that's clearly a message to guys like Kessler.

I think he will probably get one every now and then just to appease him a bit, but I dont see it being a consistent part of his game next season.
I'd love to see his list of big men with ruined careers because they took some 3 pointers.

And I do think Vernon Carey could potentially be a really solid 3rd big type center if he just focused on getting in insane shape and dominating' teh glass/paint. He was a top ranked HS recruit and he killed it at Duke w/ pretty insane stats.

If I was him I wouldnt come into a SL trying to shoot 3's. I'd try to show that I'm a beast in the paint because that's what teams want out of a 3rd big, not a guy who is going to shoot 25% from 3 on moderate attempts (what his G-League 3pt stats are). So it might not be the difference between him being David Robsinon, but it might be the difference in him getting a long-term NBA contract that pays millions vs being in/out of the league on non-guaranteed deals.

I think Carey vs kessler is kinda apples to oranges.
Was Carey a rookie of the year candidate? Has he ever had a year in the nba as good as kessler did last year? Can you post an example of a big whose game is like Gobert, Kessler, deandre jordan, jarrett allen, etc who started shooting 3 pointers and ruined their career? If so, then that would be a good example of your concern for Kessler working on his outside shot. Im doubting that you can provide an example though. I cant think of anyone.

Maybe Carey is shooting threes because his current skillset has got him nowhere in the nba so far. idk I assume coaches and agents and whatnot also give these guys specific things to work on.
Like i dont think Kessler is working on his outside game against his coaches wishes. Quite the opposite in fact. Kessler seems pretty coachable. I bet despite what hardy said in the past that Hardy is encouraging kessler to try to expand his game.

Proof is in the pudding brother. Hardy said what he said for a reason. Kind of lulzy to try and talk yourself out of his clear intention. And stop putting words in my mouth. I never said I was concerned with him practicing 3s.

And please stop talking to me about "my concern". It's what Hardy said. Talk to him about it if you want an argument. I'm just relaying what he said to inform the forum.
