Kill the Boy! Dante in 2015/2016 or next year?

Finished watching GoT Season 5 (Books 4/5, much better than series)... thinking of Aemons' statement to Jon Snow... Can it apply to Dante's attitude on the court? And WHEN?

Read stories earlier this summer where Dante said he was cautious last year, trying to fit in... IMO being just way too nice. Yea, he's 19, uhm now a whopping 20... and cocky is no good unless you can back it up. And... I've listened ad nauseum to Locke say it takes 2-3 years for NBA PG to develop...

But I want to know if Dante can be a bit nasty? Will we ever hear announcers describe Dante as gritty, scrappy, cut throat, killer instinct, or too cocky? I sure hope so, but would be surprised if it happens this season. I'm patient... and can wait... for Book 6 and for Dante to 'Kill the Boy'

I think it is more likely that we hear things more along the line of savy, intelligent, chess instead of checkers, deceptive.

I dont think he will ever but the killer that Gobert is but I do think he will be almost clinical and cold in the way he disects defenses.

I'm good with those descriptors... but WHEN?

I think it'll be 2-3 seasons before they are regularly used and it becomes who he is as a player but we will start to see flashes of it this season. This season I expect him to be much closer to his lone SL game (20-5-5) than his play last season.

He won't put the team on his back for stretches of time until his third season. Maybe a significant portion into that third season.

His attitude reminds me of a rookie Hayward. I'm hoping for 13/4/2 next season on 40%/32%. That would be a big step forward.

I want to track FTA/game on Dante. The 10 during Celtics summer game was the coolest number for me... and while 2 FTA would be a 'huge' improvement, almost an infinite increase  ... let's hope for 5'ish... that would be similar to Burks and just under Gordon... a great improvement, and the right attitude.

Exum reminds me of Favors (or even Hayward to a certain extent) in the sense that they have similar, low-key demeanors that can cause them to appear lacking in confidence at times. Exum, like Favors, may not display that "fire" on the court like Gobert & Booker are known to do, but that doesn't mean he (or Favors) is trying/hustling any less than anyone else. He appears to be more of the "quiet, confident" type rather than the "emotions on their sleeve" type, which is by no means a negative.

Very strange thread title selection...

I guess I should start watching Game of Thrones to get it?

I don't see Dante D-riding any other teams. Well maybe Australian national team but he's not going to jump on a western conference rival team. He's ours for years!

Prediction: Dante will be a nice complementary piece but never a star. Perhaps in the 12-14 points per range with 6-7 assists.

I disagree, even though I agree with a lot of what you post Stifle. I see Dante as a multiple-time All Star. Not sure I'd pull the trigger on superstar yet, but I also won't take it off the table entirely.

Physically he's one of the most unique players in the league and he's very, very smart. Very smart players who are uniquely athletic go on to be stars.

The only things Dante is weak at - creating his own shot, dribbling through traffic - particularly with his left hand, shooting off the dribble - these are all highly teachable skills. Once he puts it together: watch out.

OK... it's a prediction... have no clue what it's based on, but everyone's entitled to one, and also the thing which generates waste... IMO, they might be one and the same here, but that's just my crap opinion.
We'll debate this more during the year... cheers.

Multiple-time All Star... nice hope, I'm all for hoping, but think don't see anything to merit this yet... I'm willing to hope for All-Star vs. Complementary piece... but while his size and speed are fairly unique... don't yet see the proof that he's very, very smart. IMO, 'very, very smart' is overrated... needs to be 'based on results'... or it's just hope... and no change...
And the list of weaknesses you mention leave a lot out: cautious, shooting - in general...
But, here's hoping with you, your right...

Hey, if you're not into the series or the books yet, don't do it for this title, but, you are missing out.
Key point, when one becomes a leader, you don't have the luxury of friends or 'being nice'... you need to make the tough decisions.
May not exactly apply here, except that Dante really is a kid, in a man's game. Crazy physique and huge potential, but I don't expect him to be able to move into PG leadership role... for some time.
How long? That's the question.

I'd have no problem with Exum becoming a 14 ppg/7 apg PG with great to elte defense. Even though that wouldn't necessarily make him a superstar, that might be all of the production that we need out of our starting PG due to the amount of talent that we have (although I could see the team needing slightly more offense than that). Personally, I think he has the potential to become a multiple time all-star & put up 16-18 ppg/7-8 apg with elite defense, but as long as he develops into a starting caliber, pass 1st PG who plays good defense, we will be in good shape for the next 5+ years.

So much for this. 2016/17 anyone?
