So OKC, who knew they couldn't afford to keep Harden, traded him to get as many assets as they could. And Miller and KOC, who thought there was a HUGE chance of Deron not staying, traded him for Favors, Harris, the pick that became Enes and the pick that was included to move up and get Trey. Should neither team have made those deals? It's just the opposite: not trading away players who have legitimate value, but who a team cannot keep, hurts a franchise. One caveat to that is cap space can also be a real asset, too (the reason Big Al and Millsap were not traded for longer-term contracts). If you neglect to look at the future and when/how much contracts will be, then you may very well end up with another Matthews situation: a promising youngster has to be let go to avoid paying the tax. And that tax is much more punitive under this CBA.
Is Enes in the long-term plans of the Jazz? I would say no. He might have been, but Gobert has come along and pushed him out of the starting lineup. Even in the history of the Jazz, very good players have been moved so others could take over (Green to make way for Stockton, Dantley so Malone could become the #1 option, etc.). Denver just traded Mozgov so Nurkic could take over. I used to be in the "match at all costs" camp, until I sat down and ran the numbers. There is NO way Hayward, Favors and Gobert don't get offered max (or near max) contracts. That's potentially $60M under the new cap/tax. Even at an $88M/cap and $100M/tax threshold, adding a non-starter at $12M-$15M leaves little room to have any others outside of vet minimum and rookie deals. Maybe one or two players near the MLE...but that's it.
TBH, I think a couple of bigs in the draft bring potentially more to the Jazz at a fraction of the cost. And Utah can go a couple of ways: draft another PF and Favors becomes the backup 5 behind Gobert. Or get a backup 5 and the PF is covered by Favors and Booker. Even Tomic might be in the mix. WE just don't need Enes.

No one is saying trade him for nothing or do it just because.
You do it because it makes sense on many levels. But you only make the move if you get something good back. Stauskas is something good
I can't believe this is so hard to comprehend for some people.
And Im extremely surprised there is so much pushback on wanting to aquire a potentially great shooter. Especially for the system we run, and what are weaknesses are.

See, this crap is why Kanter is a problem. NOBODY, not even Kanter, believes that Kanter should be starting right now. He is not the better player now, he is not the better player in the future. He lost his starting spot legitimately, and needs to be playing WAY less minutes than Gobert. A dollar waiting on a dime. . .

The difference is selling high compared to selling low. The Deron trade isn't really comparable to dumping a player when their trade value is low.

Utah is playing for a pick, not trying to win now. If there was any doubt about this before, there shouldn't be any now. Maximizing assets>>>winning a few extra games in a rebuilding year.

How is Enes' value EVER going to be higher? Do you propose paying him $10M-$15M and then having him come off the bench? That would give him much less value than as a starter coming off a rookie deal. Obviously a team that trades for him is going to have to want to match an offer this summer. I guess if Kanter "blows up" then he would be a value at $15M. But what if he remains pretty much as is? Face it, unless we keep blaming Ty and Jerry fro stunting his growth, we have to acknowledge Enes is pretty much the player he's always been. He's made some progress, but not a lot. He could always shoot and get offensive rebounds, but he could never defend. He's still that same player.
