Ex-Jazz player sentenced
Updated Jul 23, 2010 06:43AM

NBA • An Ohio judge has sentenced a former NBA player to three years in prison for breaking into his neighbors’ home and attacking them.

Warren County Judge Neal Bronson sentenced Kirk Snyder, 26, Wednesday and ordered him to pay $5,550 in restitution.

A jury convicted Snyder in April of aggravated burglary, felonious assault and assault in the March 2009 break-in in Deerfield Township north of Cincinnati. Snyder had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but was later found competent to stand trial.

The former University of Nevada star was the 16th player taken in the 2004 NBA draft, by the Utah Jazz. He played for four NBA teams and a professional league in China.

He wasn't one of my favorite players, but this is a sad story.

I dont think sad is the right word, sad is someone dies. He is an idiot, he got what an idiot deserves.

Sad IS the correct word. Snyder obviously has mental problems. He needs to be incarcerated in a facility where they would force him to take medication.

SNYDER NO SWIPING!

Not sad. As said above, he is an idiot and got what he deserves. Why do people try to make excuses for criminals?

It's sad in the fact that the guy probably has enough talent to be in the NBA right now. Really just a waste.

excuses

Sorry, I didn't see any excuses.... what was said is that he has mental problem and should incarcerated AND should get help. Differences between "excuses".... you have mental problem, you should not go to jail or get other consequences for your bad actions, and "reasons", he has the following issues and if we can address these issues he has a better chance to improve his life, after serving his time, therefore reducing the chance of him committing another crime and creating new victims in society.

If we are not willing to look for the root causes of crime, and instead just label criminals with names like "idiots", what chance do we have to reduce crime?

If your mental problems cause you to break into peoples house, you should go to jail.

Excuses? Please quote me an excuse.

He committed a crime so he deserves to pay for that crime. That said, he also sounds like he has mental problems. Hopefully he can get some help. Furthermore, when I use the adjective "sad" it's because Snyder is someones kid, maybe someones father. It's sad because I don't like to see people fail.

During the year he spent with the Jazz, my wife and I were given tix to a game. The tix were in the same section that a lot of the players' wives sit. His wife was pregnant at that time. She was pretty nice. We chatted with her a good portion of the game. She was pretty good looking, IIRC.
I think it is sad what's happened in this story. He obviously has a few screws loose.

Don't ya know? Anyone who commits any crime should be locked in a small cage and beaten with a wooden spoon daily. After a few years of that we should just release them back onto the street because they've done their time and paid their debt to society. Anything else and you're just encouraging more criminals.

There should be one Viny lone produced and hitched to every single child born to assure there is more than enough feeling and sentiment to go around forever and ever. Furthermore, each assigned Vinylone will mass produce estrogen like the Ghawar field, cover the world in pink hearts and flowers, and feed fresh blueberry muffins to the child each and every morning.

Then all the sadness will go away
