I hate to make it sound like I'm bashing Wes because I'm not. I love the guy as a player. However, in reading about his suprise that Utah didn't match you can tell he's just a young kid who just got his heart broken a little. While I'm sure he doesn't regret the new payday you can just tell he is a little upset about not returning to Utah. I wish him the best and hope he's the lone bright spot for Portland in the coming years.

Speaking of Portland, they're probably sh*tting their pants right now. Utah called their bluff. They just paid $34 million for a back-up and they'll still be looking up at Utah in the standings by the end of next year. How is that good business?

They certainly have an owner who can afford it but in the near future they still might think twice before coming out with these ridiculous offers for backups.

You don't get it obviously. The QO is only made so the Jazz can retain the right to match any offer. It's not the ACTUAL offer... Please educate yourself before you make any other comments.

The way the Jazz handled the situation was exactly how they should have. The NBA is a business, and that is how business goes. Over and over again, every year.

To say that Utah disrespected Wesley Matthews is ridiculous.
 
I will admit that I've been a big KOC-basher, but after the AJ trade, I'm giving him a pass for losing Wes Matthews... I'm not losing any sleep over this.
 
I know that, but that's all they "offered." And this isn't ridiculous. You guys are so blind with loyalty, and brainwashed by the business ethic that our society wants everyone to follow that you don't know the meaning of the word integrity or value it, for that matter.

This is the same mistake that LeBron made. Instead of valuing the people who loved him, he turned his back for his own self-interest, just the way all businessmen do who act unethically and justify it by saying it was a "business decision."

So what I'm saying in regard to KOC, who did the same thing to Millsap, was that he was weasling his way with them in effort to pay them as little as possible, without considering whether it was fair or not. If he made Matthews a fair, MV offer and Matthews turned it down, then I would have no problem with this. But he NEVER made him an offer.

I think you are brainwashed into believe that this isn't the best case for both the Jazz and Matthews. He already stated he wouldn't accept a home team discount. So would you still want him for what Portland is paying him?

Duders, you need to calm down. Blind is ranting with your heart, instead of your head. This is the reaction WM was hoping for, I'd guess.

So which Matthews do you believe? The Matthews who said we never made him an offer and that he would have taken less to stay in Utah, or the Matthews that said Utah was not getting a home team discount? My guess is this (I bet you I'm right): After Utah made the qualifying offer, KOC talked with Matthew's agent and they discussed ballpark figures on what Wes thought he should get paid. Wes' agent (who was just doing his job) told KOC they were looking for the full MLE. KOC ( who was also just doing his job) told him that Utah was not ready to spend the full MLE on Wes and that he should look to the open market to determine his value. That's when Portland came in with this ridiculous offer.

To say "Utah never made me an offer" is a bit dishonest. I'm sure Utah and the Matthew's camp negotiated to the point where Utah had a very good idea of what kind of $$$$ Wes thought he could get. Obviously, it was a number that Utah wasn't ready to agree to without Wes looking elsewhere. The only way I'd be upset by this is if Wes was saying that Utah refused to even negotiate with him. I think anybody with an ounce of common sense can see this for what it really is.

I don't understand. Don't the Jazz take a hit in the integrity department if they don't pay Wes what Portland did? And how much less could they have gotten away with paying him in order not to soil their integrity?
