Found this earlier and I think it's worth posting. According to VegasInsider, the Jazz will win 50.5 games this upcoming season. That's the same number of wins as Denver, Dallas, and Oklahoma City. The only other teams predicted to have better records than us are Boston, LA, Orlando, and Miami. And based on the odds, we are the sixth most likely team to win a championship.

Vegas betting odds are usually pretty reliable. Apparently they feel that the Al Jefferson/Raja Bell acquisition will pan out favorably for us.

"favorably" in the sense, another 50 win season and second round exit?

Let's see how good I am with this. I'm great (6-1 last year) with the NFL.

I like New Orleans over 41.5, Memphis under 39.5 (they';re Memphis, something will go wrong) and the Clips under 38.5 (see Memphis).

Favorably in the sense that they at least think the departure of Boozer, Matthews, and Korver won't make us any worse than we were last year.

Ya, because when someone says something is favorable over another, what they mean is that they're exactly the same.

Considering we lost 2 of our starting 5 in Matthews and Boozer, and our main outside 3pt specialist in Korver. In addition, Memo is injured and isn't expected to return anytime soon and Fesenko still hasn't signed with us.

Yeah, I'd say having the same record as last year would be a good thing at this point.

I use the word 'favorably' because the odds makers in vegas seem to think that Big Al and an aging Raja Bell can step in and at least make us just as good as last year despite all the apparent setbacks we've had this offseason.

If my house gets burned down, my car gets wrecked and my wife leaves me but Vegas puts odds that have me living in a new house with a new car and a new wife within the year I'd call that a favorable prediction, even though everything basically stays the same.

So you're saying we've got a chance?

I dunno dude. It says we're #3 in the west right behind the Thunder. They're 15/1, we're 18/1. Now I like the Thunder... I like the Thunders' chances more than Denver if Carmelo gives his best effort. But putting Utah and Denver AND Dallas behind them?

I dunno about that...

I'd go under, just because we don't have the exact same team back. While in the long run our team will be better, this year they will drop off a few games while learning to play together.

Tough call. But remember, the Jazz struggled out of the gate last season. I think we should expect the same number of wins this year. I have confidence in Deron, Al and Paul being the main options, with CJ, AK and Raja all averaging double digits. My main concern is injuries. I think the 2/3 rotation will be fine. But until Okur comes back, the Jazz are thin at the 4/5. I know, Utah has Elson and Fesenko will likely be back. Underwhelming. And of course, we'd be in the lottery if Deron were ever to miss half or more of the season.
