Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

Plus if cleveland saw this level of play coming from markennan then they wouldnt have included a bunch of picks and sexton and ochai in the deal.
Hell they probably would have kept markennan and gave us garland or mobley or something instead.

Lauri would look pretty sweet with donovan.

Also how dumb would ainge have had to be if he knew how good Lauri would be and waited so long into the off season to acquire him along with everything else we got.
What if a different team would have known that lauri was available for trade and swooped in and got to him first? That would have sucked.

As I said earlier, Ainge obviously didn't know back then that Lauri would quickly turn into this. Nobody did. But I'm sure he saw major untapped potential... that's why he's DA. Hell, it's not like Lauri was an unknown quantity. He made the All Rookie First Team and averaged damn near 20/10 in his second season. Back then he did look like a future All Star. My guess is that Danny had him penciled in as a building block.

For Utah, I'd say the main priorities in the deal were picks and Lauri. They were buying low on Sexton, who couldn't be guaranteed to ever regain his athleticism and wasn't going to be returning to his former top dog role anyway. Ainge brought him in as a future bench player or trade asset (if it turned out his knee healed well). Ochai was a total throw-in, the Cavs had no use for him with Mitchell coming in. He wasn't gonna get any minutes there.

Dude… Markkanen didn’t play a single EuroBasket game until after he was traded.
He played quite a few World Cup qualifier matches during the summer already, and led Finland to be the *first* European country to qualify. Yes, that Finland which had never before got through from the qualifiers. From the same qualifying group as Slovenia, Germany et al.

His EuroCup performance was just a continuation to that performance level. I'm pretty sure Danny Ainge was well aware of what was going on before making the deal.

Fair enough. Makes sense

Fiba started the day he was traded this past fall. I said Summer. but nice try

So let me get this straight… you think Ainge knew Markkanen would improve so much into an all-star based off of a couple of qualifying games during the summer?

if you are not involved in the game enough to hear the voices of how well he was playing ALL SUMMER , then you are like the rest of us. Ainge however has ears and eyes everywhere.
No way he didn't see what he was capable of before the trade, and then for the Finnisher to dominate the Euro play in the following week was just **** on a platterpuss

Lol… why didn’t he try to trade for Markkanen without trading Mitchell then? I’m sure Cleveland would have taken a couple picks for him.

CLE clearly valued Don as a first option way more than keeping the FInnisher in a 3rd option role behind their recently maxed Garland and top 3 pick Mobley?
Like I said Ainge owned the Cavs in this deal

We all know Ainge owned Cleveland in the deal. That’s not what we’re debating. Nobody knew Markkanen would be this good for us when the deal happened. After the trade and his EuroBasket games a lot of us were buzzing and hyping him up. I mentioned he could flirt with being a 20/10 player this year. Nobody thought he’d be trending towards 25/9 on unbelievable efficiency.

Nobody on here saw him as a first option either did they. He did that exact thing overseas confirming what Danny envisioned before the trade. It is common knowledge now that he saw Marky as the main player coming back , only you apparently choose to believe he just got lucky the Finnisher has outperformed expectations. He showed flashes of this level of play in Cleveland last season, but never NEVER had the kind of usage or plays set up for him Hardy is running for him.
I give him a solid shot at maintaining this level of play the rest of the season, but don't be surprised if he gets into the Allstar game, every team in the league puts a massive X on his number and his 2nd half of the season is far less impressive.
