Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

I think there was a lot of potential to get him at different times....maybe he wouldn't have blossomed the same way, but I think he would have been great next to Mitchell. He's a second action type of guy. Just based on his interviews and past (Boylen victim) I think what he needed most was the confidence.
He would’ve been even better next to Gobert and Mitchell

Nobody on here saw him as a first option either did they. He did that exact thing overseas confirming what Danny envisioned before the trade. It is common knowledge now that he saw Marky as the main player coming back , only you apparently choose to believe he just got lucky the Finnisher has outperformed expectations. He showed flashes of this level of play in Cleveland last season, but never NEVER had the kind of usage or plays set up for him Hardy is running for him.
I give him a solid shot at maintaining this level of play the rest of the season, but don't be surprised if he gets into the Allstar game, every team in the league puts a massive X on his number and his 2nd half of the season is far less impressive.

I’m not entertaining you anymore. You’re making up arguments that aren’t there.

Lauri is a mother****ing beast and in my opinion is a top-15 player in the league.

He has been awesome but top 15 in the league is the most homer take on him I have heard.
If we can get a legit 1st option guard to play with him and the pairing can confuse defenses for Hardy. We might win a chip with him.
You act like he is so great already that we will without that other allstar. He isn't in the top tier yet and tbh probably won't ever be.
But if you look at the number of true 7 foot tall 3-4's in the NBA there are not many that shoot as well from the outer rings

if you are not involved in the game enough to hear the voices of how well he was playing ALL SUMMER , then you are like the rest of us. Ainge however has ears and eyes everywhere.
No way he didn't see what he was capable of before the trade, and then for the Finnisher to dominate the Euro play in the following week was just **** on a platterpuss

Ah i see. So the cavs front office weren’t watching their own player. Makes sense

CLE clearly valued Don as a first option way more than keeping the FInnisher in a 3rd option role behind their recently maxed Garland and top 3 pick Mobley?
Like I said Ainge owned the Cavs in this deal

Cleveland clearly didnt think markennan was very good. And they saw him every day for a long long time.

not what I said. I think they knew damn well what they had, and were still never going to use or be able to market him as much as a proven allstar like Mitchell.
He started all last season for the Cavs in a lesser role and played fair at best.

Lol.
They knew what they had and said “lets see how much we can give the jazz along with our all star player. We hate to win trades”

I don't think you are seeing how much they valued Don at all here. No matter much they did or didn't value Marky. I think he has outperformed expectations for most fans overall, but in Cleveland was largely inconsistent as a shooter, not a great mobile defender, and he was not having plays run for him as a first option. He lacks elite self creation ability, which is something they needed from him, if he was going to get more usage without having that 1st option play calling.
I think it is a case of the Jazz was the best scenario for him, Hardy has set him to succeed, and had he not been traded he would still be an after-thought, even after his Euroleague.

this is stupid logic. They valued Mitchell clearly way more. But to think the Finnisher is some 1st team all nba guy after what he shown this season is a homer take by you as well. He has been great, he is no messiah

fyi trade values are established by the market, not by what the team you are on thinks of you. Mitchell was highly coveted , while the FInnishers value was set in stone based on being a 3rd option, or even a 4th one. Never was he going to get Cleveland 1st option value. Danny knew this and stole him, but it isn't like Cleveland didn't realize he had more potential n a focussed role, even though they were not giving it to him with the roster they already had either. I think they overvalue their own players if anything. Garland is probably not a max point guard and Mobley is still a wip.
