Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

In order to get this guy a worthy running mate we really need him to come down with a nagging 'injury' that keeps him out of 20+ games the rest of the season.
I trust DA's ability to assess talent, the two best dudes we drafted weren't high picks either.

yet if you show that same graph three years ago, it looks pretty much the opposite. Collins is having a down year and Lauri is ultra improved. Never know what kind of improvement Collins makes (similar to Lauri) with a change of scenery, new coach, new scheme, new teammates, etc.

three years ago, Collins averaged 22 and 10 on 40% threes so he definitely has it in him.
Lowish volume 3s tho and probably an incomplete season

He’s definitely getting better. Can’t tell me he’s not a legit #1b option on a contender.

I prob watch 1/4 games this year, listen in on the rest while putzing. His athleticism just explodes off the screen watching live.

A lot of people here want us to miss the playoffs and would really hate being a play in team. But I am almost positive Lauri wants to make the playoffs for the first time in his career. I think it would mean a lot to him. I'm on the fence, I'll be happy either way though.
Yeah it is clear at this point that we are much more likely to be competing for a play-in spot than a top draft pick. So no matter what we will need to be bundling assets to either move up in the draft, or bring in top talent through trades. So why not get him a shot at it. This really is the no-lose season, where if we crashed we had a chance at an all-time great talent in the draft, but if we get into the playoffs the team is a lot of fun to watch and that would be exciting to see this rag-tag bunch of rebels claw their way there. No way to lose this season. Best rebuilding/blow-it-up season I could imagine.

And frankly, Lauri and Kessler have been nothing short of revelations. Utterly unbelievable what we netted in these trades. Gobert light who just hit a freaking 3 pointer (more to come) and might be a better rebounder overall, and a Mitchell replacement who is more efficient everywhere on the court, rebounds at a high rate, and is developing into a true 2-way player...oh and he's 7 FREAKING FEET TALL.

Yeah, best rebuild season on record. For us for sure, maybe all time in the NBA. Time will tell.

Does he just want to make the playoffs or does he want to make more than just noise in the playoffs. We won’t build a contender by making it this year then trading our assets to build a team. We build a contender by drafting well then spending the rest of assets to finish building our team. That’s the difference between being good and great. Yes, we will end up being good even if we enter post season play but that’s the jazz of the last 5 years. Does anyone want that?

Spending 10+ draft picks to trade for people to just fill up rest of the spots sounds pretty silly. You use them to get a star, or multiple stars.

Most players don't think rookies will turn things around for a team even high pick ones. I am pretty sure he cares more about making the playoffs than the draft position. Also picking high is not the only way to build a contender.
