Lauri re-signs for 5 years 238 million

No 15 million as far understood it to be. If Lauri took 24 million the first year it would be 11 million. But whatever Lauri took less money his first year for a reason. Again this is a guess, but Cy wants to get worked up by that then be my guest. :). Lol
They absorbed Westbrook’s salary already. And at some point they will actually have to sign Eubanks, Juzang, and Flip. They can hold off a while longer and sign them using exceptions but they’re not really going into the season with much if any cap space and all they can do with it is absorb some deals in the meantime. Probably.

He took the full $24 mil in season 1.

Per the tweet he did leave a little on the table the final seasons though.

From what I can tell the Jazz gave Lauri everything and will save like 10 million over the final 3 years of Lauri's deal and for that they got no player option in the final year.

The pushback on that is that the new CBA is making teams think twice about spending the full max on one-or-no time all-stars.

Gotta tank well now and then start buying I. 2-3 seasons. That's the plan and hope it goes well. Can't win in NBA without some risks taken.

If this tweet is right, Lauri is taking around $13 million less than his absolute max over the last three years of this deal. In the first two years, he is making a total of $88 million. This leaves $150 million for the last three years. If this is flat, he will be making 29% of the cap in year 3, 26% in year 4 and 24% in year 5.
Yup, that's the concession the Jazz got along with no option for the final year.

Utah still got bent over because we are Utah, but not to the degree it usually happens.

The age of players taking less is over, isn`t it. Jaylen Brown demanded and got his full max last year to stay in Boston. The stars in Miami and LA are all on their maxes so why would we be any different?

Players will only take less if they have a compelling reason to. Playing for the Jazz while they tank during your prime is not a compelling reason to take less money, no matter how much you like mountains.

A much more restrictive CBA is why. Also players have been taking less. Jalen Brunson just took $100 million less on his extension.

This isn’t an awesome deal. The most awesome part of the deal is that it cannot be super max.

A minor concern I have is that if you’re not a Jazz homer, Lauri looks like a dude putting up numbers in a vacuum and don’t know how he actually translates when he’s lower in the pecking order. I do happen to think that the timeline is off with Lauri, so how tradable his contract is matters (whether his deal is positive value, negative value, etc). We’ve also been playing with house money on Lauri, so everything was gravy. We can’t get anything less than what he’s been doing. I think he probably does, but the stakes are wildly higher now.

I am happy we will have Lauri around a while longer. I do not believe we will ever field a competitor around him before we are forced to trade him to recoup his value. But I like him as a player and enjoy watching him play, and will enjoy it for the next 2-3 years.
