Let's enjoy the ride

I'll admit I can be critical as hell of our players and before DL arrived, our FO, but for once, I just want to enjoy the ride. I don't feel we're as desperate as a year ago. True, this season was worse than the prior one, but the differences are, I have faith in Snyder and a real coaching plan, I have faith that we have a couple more building blocks (Burke, Gobert, Neto) than we did a year ago, I have faith that our assets can be used to make some real noise both tomorrow and going forward, and I have more faith in DL than I did a year ago after watching him snag three strong picks in a crappy draft.

Have faith with me my Jazz brothas and just enjoy the ride. No matter what we do tomorrow night, I'm gonna back the move(s) and get behind it and enjoy the ride. I can see a lot of upside in any of these players. So join with me. One for all and all for one.

Let's ****ing do this!

I don't really have faith. I just have hopes. Right now I want one of Wiggins, Exum, Gordon or Smart out of this draft. Of course some of those guys would require a trade.

Great post. Repped. I agree that things are better off than they were a year ago.

This time last year, the Jazz had the 14th, 21st and 46th picks. There was still the question of which free agents were coming back and what direction the franchise was heading. Keep Jefferson, Millsap, Mo Williams, Foye and the Junkyard Dog, or double down on the young guys and let it roll? What was the "Master Plan"? I don't think anybody really knew until after the draft and free agency.

Fast forward to tonight. . .

The Jazz dumped all of their key veteran free agents in an effort to get younger and turned the three crappy picks from last year into Burke, Gobert and Neto. They also turned their cap space into expiring deals to get to the salary floor and picked up a bunch of unprotected assets to do it. Depending on how Golden State does in 2016, it could pay of huge dividends.

While the team struggled to fill holes under Corbin and did not play well, I'm excited to see how they respond to Snyder and Co. I finally feel like this team has a solid foundation and a clear-cut direction that they are pursuing. This is a draft and develop team. They will be young and fun. Probably make a lot of mistakes, but it should be nice to see a new type of basketball anyways.

Considering that the draft is the most critical element in team-building in Utah. . . we should all be really excited for tomorrow. I have my favorite players that I'm hoping for, but I also have a lot of faith in Dennis Lindsey. He worked the draft nearly to perfection last year, and has much better picks to work with this year (plus a boatload of cap space to buy more picks if deemed necessary.) Enjoy the ride indeed.

I want Gordon and Westbrook lite/Spartan Payne.

To me, that would be an infusion of new blood into this tired old jazz corpse.

I too felt that way once, my friend. But alas, I have succumbed to the great and wise Dennis Lindsey.
In his brief time here, he has provided me with a newfound faith. Every move he's made has been a highly successful one, at least to this point, to say the least. In fact, I've been wowed at what he's been able to pull off. To this point, he's performed three minor miracles.

*He somehow managed to get Burke, Gobert and Neto out of a crappy draft without giving up anything of significance.
*He helped oust Corbin and hire a seemingly strong young candidate with a good pedigree in Snyder--do we definitively think KOC would've booted Corbin?
*With the cap room we had, he took on three expiring contracts who netted us five draft picks including two unprotected 1sts. And what did we lose? Randy Foye and Kevin Murphy, two throwaways.

If this isn't proof of the divine, I don't know what is. Have faith my friend.

I posted this on the prediction thread. This is probably the Jazz's thought process on tomorrow. It isn't too hard to predict (like last year with trading up for a PG).

Priorities ----

1) Trade up for the #1 pick to take Wiggins. The asking price is high, and the question is whether the Jazz will offer enough to Cleveland to do the deal. The Jazz would offer #5, Favors, GSW #1 and #23. I don't think Alec Burks fits unless the Cavs are confident they can move Dion Waiters, but Alec Burks could be on the table.

1a) An expansion on the above is that the Jazz offer either Trey Burke or Alec Burks + #23 for #7 or #8, such that the Jazz can then offer Cleveland #5, Favors, #7 or #8 +#23. A sleeper is Clint Capella.

Cleveland will take Wiggins regardless, and it will be a question whether the Jazz or anyone else can wrest Wiggins away from them during the draft. Personally, I think the chances are fairly low. I don't see how you pass up the chance to draft Wiggins if you're the Cavs. Lebron probably isn't coming.

2) If Orlando puts #4 on the market, the Jazz can offer #5 and #23. The Jazz would take Exum, and the Magic would take Smart or Vonleh.

If Exum is as wonderful as people are saying he is, then I don't think the Magic will do this.

3) The Jazz stay at #5 and draft Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh or Joel Embiid (2 of whom will be there). This is a tough decision, especially if Embiid is on the board. But assuming that for whatever reason Embiid is not on the board at #5, the Jazz are likely to choose Gordon. They taught Bryon Russell how to shoot. They'll try to do it again with Gordon and hope for the best.

4) The Jazz will ask themselves if they're happy with Trey Burke, and they might entertain the idea of trading Burke + 23 for another pick in the lottery to get a shooter. This could also become a component of a deal with Cleveland for Wiggins. (See above.) The Jazz would have to believe strongly in the player they're targeting (assuming a deal with Cleveland doesn't go through). It might be worth it for McDermott if he's the next Chris Mullin.

5) The Jazz don't need 3 rookies this year and could try to package #23 and their 2nd round pick to move up to #18 or so. I think the target would be Dario Saric or possibly Kyle Anderson.

This really isn't the thread for what we want. After all, lust is a sin, and this is a Thread of Worship.

But I love your enthusiasm, catchall.

I think 23, 35, the Nuggets future 2nd and our 2016 2nd could net us something like the 17th pick fwiw simply because this draft is so deep.

If the Jazz trade Burke, then are you saying Neto will be the starting PG? And the only backup is Garrett with Burks the emergency third point. That is probably the worst PG rotation in the NBA.

No, they'll get a PG elsewhere--free agency, draft, etc. It means they aren't sold on Burke for the long haul, and they're leveraging him as a trade chip.

If you're like me, you made this thread trying to talk yourself into rooting for mediocrity. Yeah, we're the next Cleveland, Charlotte, and Minnesota yeah!

I with you.

I will be happy tomorrow night no matter what happens

Bull.

You can't tell me with a straight face that youd be happy if the jazz took McBuckets with the 5th pick!
True.

But i wouldnt be really upset.

I think mcbutteks will be good. But ya not at 5

I too have battled such demons. But no more.

Kneel before Father Lindsey.

Everything has built up to this moment that it's hard for me to look past it toward other options. I think the lack of strategery posting past this point says most are in the same boat.

Lead us in faith Father Lindsey and his promoter Quin's Public Hairs.
