My expectations have always been way lower than most. I didn't think he would be very good from the day we drafted him.
I have seen many people say he will be a superstar (with conviction and certainty), kobe bryant, penny hardaway, etc.

I just expect him to maybe be a decent starter by the end of his rookie deal. I'm worried that expectation is unrealistic too though.

Unrealistic? The kid is 21.5 years old and looks infinitely worse than about 30-40 high school seniors and college frosh right now, guys who are 2-4 years younger than him, guys that have not been afforded the opportunity of being around professionals, training with professionals, and learning from professionals for a couple years, and we're what, supposed to continue to give him the benefit of the doubt as to why he blows and has the heart of a dog that's been kicked too many times?

How does he look worse? How can you even judge that when Exum is playing against the 300 best players in the world and the others guys are playing people who will struggle to make lesser leagues?

Watch games of Monk and Fultz and the other college studs or seniors and then watch Exum. It has nothing to do with the comp. It has to do with the skill, or in his case, complete lack thereof, that is as obvious as anything humanly possibly to the human eye.

Watch clips of Exum in the U19 tourneys.......

It's not hard to light up poor competition.
 
Exum is playing the hardest position to learn for young players in the NBA after having to take an entire year off because of an injury. Previous to that he took a year before the draft. He leap-frogged his way to the NBA w/ little experience and became a starter pretty fast despite not being ready. He just needs development time. He has skills, idk what people are talking about.

And yet these kids step into the NBA after their one year having been removed from high school and often light it up just as thought. Exum lights up jack ****.

Buddy Hield, a guy who a lot of people (including CL) thought was NBA ready after a 4 year college career, is struggling his *** off in the NBA. It's the top competition in the world. Players need time to develop and the NBA is increasingly becoming less forgiving for rookies.
 
The only rookie averaging over 10 ppg is Joel Embiid, and he is a dude who is considered a generational talent. He is also in a system where he is allowed to fail as much as he possibly can.
