It gets complicated when overly careful and considered people start worrying about appropriation. The burritos these white women were making and selling were made with flour tortillas; it was specifically the taste and style of tortillas made with flour which got them going in their business. Now they’re out of business for stealing the flour tortilla recipe from Mexico. Problem is flour tortillas did not originate in Mexico. They’re from Spain and North Africa. Corn tortillas originated in Mexico. Indigenous Mexicans appropriated making tortillas with flour from Spaniards and North Africans. I love the Red Iguana but their chimichangas are made with flour tortillas. They probably have to close now as well.
