lob #2

You can tell who's the most important player on this team. He goes out and our offense and defense suffers. It isn't Hayward cause we have Hood. Hayward was in a huge slump at the start of the season and we were still able to win games. But he is a huge piece to that success. But not the most important piece IMO

Hayward makes it close IMO.
I don't think Hayward is all that close. I think he's too inconsistent and Favors is far more consistent. I also think Favors plays better on both ends of the floor. The difference being Hayward has the ball far more so puts up better looking stats. If I was trading one of them it would be Hayward by a mile.

Gobert is just a reliable offensive move from being the best player on the team.
Gobert is so over rated by Jazz fans it's pathetic. He's a great defender, but is a liability on offense. His FT's and lack of any offense more than 2' from the rim is a problem. He'd need more than one reliable offensive move to become the best player on the team.

While I think Gobert is a special player, it's really the Gobert/Favs combo that makes Utah dominant defensively. Without Favs, teams can neutralize a lot of what Gobert does. We saw that when Favs was out. Sure, Rudy was just coming back from injury, but blocks and rebounds were down and Utah was giving up way too many points. You can suck Rudy out or move him to one side or the other. When Derrick is also in the game, teams are going against two amazing defenders, though.

If defense is going to be Utah's identity, they have to keep both.

Replace Favors with a average starting PF and it might be a different story. When Favors was out we were playing a rookie and Booker, who is at (at best) an average backup PF.
