What's new

Mailman on 1280 The Zone :))

Thanks!
I miss listening to the Mailman do interivews. Malone suggested Utah and New Orleans switch names (Utah Hornets, New Orleans Hornets), and then he would go back to New Orleans to coach the "Jazz' as an assistant to Jerry Sloan. Suggests moving the team out of New Orleans and west like in the Gonzales area, building a 12,000-14,000 seat arena. Says if Jerry's listening then it would be news to him since this is the first time he's ever mentioned this idea.

Man, Karl is rolling right now. Wow. Interesting insider take on old and new Jazz teams + harsh criticism toward DWill etc.

OMG!!!

Mailman killing Deron and KOC. If half of what he is saying is true Deron is a bigger jerk than even I thought.

Monson and Brad Rock are falling all over themselves to get questions in now. Wow, I really miss Karl.

Could you recap some of this. I just tuned in and am hearing the Mailman saying Deron had words with Sloan in the locker room and the "powers that be" were also there and remained silent. They basically took Deron's side so Sloan was pissed. What else have I missed prior to this?

Some Karl highlights:

"I'm going to throw some stuff out here to make you go 'hmmm'."

"I know for a fact that [Sloan] was overridden on practicing sometime on the road because Deron was calling our GM."

[On what he believes happened during Sloan's final game]
"Coach pissed off, go into the lockerroom. Deron pissed off...words definitely said...and in that defining moment when they should've stood up for Jerry Sloan, they chose Deron Williams. And coach Sloan said, 'you know what we should part ways'...I'm keeping it clean this is a family radio station...and once Coach Sloan say something it's history."

"That is my belief, that is Karl's belief and I will always believe that until the day I die so we can stop all the BSing, all the hee-haw's about it."

"There is no way [Deron] would have resigned here. No way, and God bless him but get on with it."

"Players should call him "Coach Ty" I'm going to call him 'Ty' because I played with him."

[Said he hasn't talked to Stockton about the circumstances surrounding Jerry's retirement because he didn't want to influence John with his own opinion]
"Stock being Stock, he definitely would put the positive on it."

Deron calling GM to complain about Sloan having practice, or complain about Sloan's play calling. D-will breaking plays, atleast 4-5 times in the Chicago game. Jerry called him on it, Deron calls the GM. And Jerry is gone.

It sorta puts all the pieces together, confirms some rumours and speculation. Also, it now seems kind of fitting that Deron learned he was traded from ESPN and a short terse statement from Greg.

Brad and Monson are playing so Malone so hard, but he is so easy to prod into saying too much. Ha ha.

In all fairness does Malone have any proof of any of this? I tend to think he is right but can he back it up with proof?

Malone: Deron is about Deron. If he's not careful he can be a cancer, 'cause he was one here.

Monson: How would you have dealt with Deron if you had played with him?

Malone: Thank God I didn't have to, but I would have told him to run the damn plays.

Malone: I never went to Larry to talk about Coach Sloan. Did I not like to practice sometimes when I was tired, yes. But I went.

Monson: How would you characterize Greg Miller and KOC? What grade would you give them?

Malone: Now, now its good because you got guys that are playing for a coach. But then you'd have to give them a D- or a F. But talking about that is healing, its good to talk about it.

I have to turn it off. I can't take anymore. Karl Malone makes great soundbites, and awful monologues.

More Mail highlights:
[on if he ever had to play with Deron]
""I thank God I didn't have to deal with it, but I would've said to him run the play."

"Everyone thought every play was run for Karl Malone and John Stockton, but we just instigated the play. Look at the guys who got open...there would've been confrontations...if I'm a captain - it was the perfect storm going on there...you're talented...you're big in the community...what you have to be very careful of...Larry and I had a very interesting relationship but I never played that card. I took my butt to practice."

"Not one time in my gut did I think about going over his [coach's] head...it's a trend [in the NBA] with no stopping and they're not doing anything about it."

[random Karl Malone tangent]
"Let me take my shoes off, it's getting hot in here. I'm not going to get nude, but I'm going to take my top off."

[On Greg and KOC]
"It's good, because you got guys who's playing for a coach. The handling of that whole situation [Sloan] I have to give you...a D or an F. And I lean towards an F but I give you a D- because I love the Jazz. Now they don't want to talk about it...getting it out here and talking about it...that's healing."

[On leaving for the Lakers]
"Forget longterm, without a doubt I did not feel [Jazz] they wanted me. i know it wasn't Gail, I know it wasn't Larry I know it wasn't Greg...kinda like what's going on with Peyton Manning...I'm being real guys...they wanted to move on and didn't know how to tell me...

[Q: It was Kevin O'Conner?]
"Yeah...I'm not upset with him we're good."

[If it bothered him to be criticized for leaving for the Lakers]
“Yeah it bother you. We want people to like us but everybody not gonna like you…but just deal with me straight up. So what is policially correct these day? What the heck – see I was politically correct there I didn’t curse…”

[random Karl Malone tangent]
“Black people don’t snow ski”

[on walking into Energy Solutions Arena now]
“It’s Delta Center. With all due respect to those guys…radiation company that…whatever…it’s Delta Center to me”
