It has been somewhat discussed earlier in this thread, but is there any reason Portland would agree to send us Rudy and Mills for TPEs if we agree to not match for Matthews?

Is there any reason for Portland to pay EVEN MORE for Matthews than they already have? Not that I can see. If they want to dump those players anyway, they can, but not just to make sure they can pay Matthews $34 million.

Very little has been made of Korver's record breaking 3-pt shooting percentage last year. You'd think we'd want a guy like that.

Korver already agreed to the Bulls before that ridiculous Matthews offer. If he knew Matthews offer would be in the stratosphere he would have made a 5 million/year deal to Korver on July 1st.

If this is true, the Jazz FO wasn't doing its job. They knew Matthews would get at the very least, a good offer... and they should have been prepared for the possibility of the offer he did get. It isn't like Korver ran off and signed with the Bulls right away. He made it clear his first choice was to stay in Utah, hinted at a 'hometown discount'. Maybe, if the Jazz hadn't been the LAST of more than a dozen teams to contact Korver when FA opened... and maybe had they kept an open line of communication with him, then he would have waited a bit longer before signing elsewhere.

Then again, I still feel that the Portland offer sheet to Wes was purposely timed after Korver did sign elsewhere, limiting the Jazz's options.

1) Finally hearing some actual numbers on Matthews' offer sheet: $5.69 million signing bonus and $3.45 million of 1st year salary up front.

2) Jazz would be responsible for $9.14 upfront payment as a result if they decided to match.

3) Matthews' base salary is $4.626 million, $4.996 million, $5.366 million, $5.736 million and $6.107 million.

4) Matthews still would count $5.765 million for cap/tax purposes since that's the salary slot his contract is fitting into.
