His first half dozen games with them, Matthews scored 13 points or better (high of 18) in 4 of 6 games. Nope, unlikely anybody would've wanted to trade somebody who put up those numbers coming off the bench for about 22 minutes per. Not to mention the hustle and defense he probably brought with him too.

And also the Jazz didn't and don't have a Brandon Roy equivalent that Matthews would have had to play behind.

Sure most of the board were fine with the FO not matching but the FO do this for a living and they sure dropped the ball on this one. Another mistake from the same guys that brought us the Mehmet Okur extension, among others.

well those are not rperesanative he strugled at the start of season. played with akward lineups. etc etc.

now that roy is out he has more stability. and it shows

What? His percentages were not good against Denver the other night either. 8-19 or something like that. People on here are overrating him a lot.
 
In Matthews' two starts with Portland, he shot 11-19 for 30 points and 8-18 for 20 points. That's 51% shooting. Those include 5-10 and 3-8 from 3pt. That's 44% on 4 treys made a game. Portland also won both games.

It's one thing to debate whether or not it was right for the Jazz not to match but come on, Matthews has been doing well. Also, he's been doing better than all our guards not named Deron. Coming off last season's play, if Wes was starting now alongside Deron in the backcourt instead of our current scrubs, damn. The Jazz got it wrong. Again.

Again. You think that the Jazz should have paid this dude 9 Million dollars in a single day before he even played a game under this contract? We can almost pay Raja's entire salary for that much money. Not to mention that he still is going to get 5 Million during the course of the season. Come on. That's stupid for a player of that caliber.

That's front-loading. It's within the rules, it's done. Even the Jazz did it when they stole Boozer, remember?

Coming off his play last season and what he's done starting for Portland, it's possible Matthews could've at least brought 15 ppg and solid defense at SG. Mid-level money for that kind of production wouldn't be criminal.

The Jazz are always looking for that $2-3 million bargain wing who'll bring mediocre to average production. You really enjoy that?

That's the real issue. The Jazz were not proactive in bringing him back.

No way the Jazz should have matched that offer.

Still: 6-16 tonight. That's not efficient.

to be fair his defense was spectacular. although refs should have called some more fouls on him
