Max Out Matthews?

Lol, he is worth wayyyy more than that. Have you watched basketball in the last 3 years? 3pt shooting is extremely important and so is defense, he is top 10 among perimeter players in both things. He is at least worth 13 million, I'd pay like 15.

You don't pay top dollar for elite role players. You pay close to it, but not top. Isn't starting at 10 a year good for not a big?

He's having a career year. Shooting 53% from 2, 40 from 3. He'd fit in perfectly in this system.

Not only that, but he shoots super high volume from three range, like 3 per game. That is probably the single most valuable thing about his game. That adds a huge dimension to any offense.

You are missing the point that 14/15 million is going to be the equivalent of 10/11 in 2017.

I like the idea of going after Mathews. He's a damn good player.

But I think we first have to swing for the fences with Butler, Draymond, or Leonard. I know people think it's impossible, but it's still worth a try.

If nothing else, then we force one of these teams to pay the max when they might not want to.

Then we target Mathews or Danny Green.

Not really worth a try. It just means you tie your money up in players who are going to get matched. You float a max offer to Butler and Bulls take 3 days too match. What if an alternative target gets signed in those 3 days? It's just wasting your time. Butler and Leonard are getting maxed out by their respective teams.

But the NBA is like a game of dominos sometimes. There is a good chance no one gets signed til the top free agents are signed.

Aren't these guys the top free agents?

I'm not a mind reader, so I'm not sure what you are saying. I'm just going to assume you meant that Mathews is a top free agent.

He is in a way. But he is in the next tier down imo. I like him, but he's not in the same tier as Butler and Leonard.

If you are asking if Wes and Danny green are the top free agents then I would say no

I personally say yes to maxing him out. I would however do a Chandler Parsons type deal of 3 years instead of 4. It would help us to start winning now while still developing our young guys. If we start winning that will make us more attractive to free agents who want to contend.

If halfway through his contract he starts declining in productivity, he resigns for less at the end and becomes a very valuable rotation player down the line.

Also, we are only discussing free agent wings. I'm pretty sure that there are other free agents at other positions in the top tier along with butler and leonard

If you believe in real plus/minus, we should be targeting Draymond Green or Middleton with our cap room, not Matthews.
