Memoismoney Alec Burks 2013-14 Mix

one other thing of note from this video (and from last season)
In Alec's first and second years he was crashing the offensive glass alot more and getting putbacks..... if you watch his rookie and sophmore highlight videos you will see quite a few offensive rebounds and putbacks. In last years highlight mix there are zero. And i noticed him not going for offensive rebounds as much when i watched the games as well.

I wonder if he has was coached, or simply realized, that getting back on defense is more important to the team winning than crashing the glass.

Wow, amazing video!

I love how comfortable Alec is going to his left. Makes him much harder to defend. (im curious if hayward would have even one left hand scoring play, besides a dunk, in his 13-14 mix)

He seems to have added a pretty decent spin move to his arsenal this last year. I dont remember seeing a spin move from him before last year, and then last season i remember a handful of spin moves.

He has totally added and incorporated a very very effective euro step to his game this last season.
His improved outside jumpshot game and that euro step are the two improvements that have upped his game the most imo. (well those and the fact that he was not on the bench all season)

I dont know if there are many players in the league with season highlight vids featuring more tough (whodini) shots.

As someone else said, he is very very smooth. Very "slick pimpish"

Sometimes it is preferrable to have a player doing alot of thinking on the court (bbiq), but other times its better to have a player that doesn't think too much and just has that natural instinct.
I notice hayward often beats his man off the dribble, gets into the paint, and then thinks too much about what to do next and sometimes doesn't know what to do.

Burks doesn't seem to think much. He just attacks and once he gets to the basket he just has the natural ability or instinct to know what to do...... draw contact? avoid the contact? go left or right? score on the front side of the hoop or go under the hoop for a reverse? pass off to teammate?...... it all just seems to come natural to him.

THat left handed shot stood out to me as well. Didn't realize he had it before watching this vid TBH.

That song just gave a shout out to Jerry Stackhouse.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

So, Alec Burks is basically the same size as Exum, and measured better than him in athletic drills at the combine. Other than age, what differences do you see in their games? I think Exum projects to be a better shooter, passer and ball handler, but Burks is improving in these areas quite well and Exum still hasn't proven it against NBA competition. I see them both as slashers with a quick first step that can get to the rim. What will make one stand out from the other? Not a knock on either, just curious to know where they differ.

Exum has more hesitation to his game it seems. Better at accelerating gear to gear, has a better frame, and seems to have a higher IQ.

I still believe AB is a hidden gem in the NBA...MOST PEOPLE DONT REALIZE HOW GOOD HE IS. Had the Jazz shown this video to Cleveland during their trade discussions....Andrew Wiggins might be wearing a Jazz uniform right now.
