Millsap Is Ready

He added: "This year’s going to be great for the NBA, for basketball, period. There’s a lot of things happening. For me, I’ve just got to … keep my ego down a little bit. I learned over the past not to get too excited. Just go into the season ready to play and you’ve got to see what happens. It’s going to be a good year for us."

Pretty interesting statement there! Sounds like he realizes how good the front court is (Favors), and is realistic about having to share the court with him. Gives hope that if the off-the-bench assignment does come, he might be cool with it.

karl used to talk about the paradox of the ego thing in the NBA. basically said that you can't get too big for your own good, but you also have to believe you're the best. when every time you step on the floor against some of best 400 or so basketball players on the planet, you won't succeed unless you really, truly are cocky enough to believe you're good enough to beat them.

maybe that's what paul is talking about or maybe he's talking about the question of what his role will be. either way, he wouldn't make the remark if he wasn't coming into camp having worked hard and made some great strides.

paul is such a hard-working bad-***.

If Millsap can successfully check his pride and accept the sixth man role on the team that would be great news. The only problem with such a scenario would be his new contract which would make it hard to re-sign the young talent. If Paul stays and becomes the sixth man, than he would backup both the 3 and 4 leaving Favors to be the 5 backed up by Kanter (hope he makes some strides. Hayward would start at the 2 backed up by Burks with Marvin starting at the 3. The Jazz have four point guards, so no shortage of talent there, though Foye could play some 2 for those of you who refuse to believe that he is a point guard. I like how that looks with the exception of the C spot which is a bit thin after Al leaves. (I'm not an AL hater, but I can see the winds changing and I think he's the one to go)

Man, the numbers are terrifying.

Based on what I'm seeing here, you just can't keep everyone. Let's assume that Charles is right and that Hayward is a future all star. We already believe that Favors is one and Kanter is going to be overpaid because of his size and strength. If MO Burks and Marvin get a fair contract when their time comes it'll be between five and eight million each. Add to that Millsap's 12-14 along with Foye's if he re-signs. The only way we keep our core of guys along with our veterans is if the entire culture of the NBA changes to where players don't demand as much money (actually it will more likely come because of the new increasing luxury tax).

I hope Paul sticks around long enough to see #24 hang from the rafters. Seriously.

Millsap has been one of my favorite players for a long time. He is such a hard worker and although he continues to fly under the radar (in terms of things like the ESPN Player Ranking) he will certainly by a popular free agent. However, I think Millsap will be the type of guy that will (hopefully) show some team loyalty next year and be the guy that take 8-10 million rather than 12 million so his team can continue to improve and become a championship contender. I may be overly optimistic on this point - but I can dream, right?

cant get exited iver the season :S
don't know why
maybe cus prima donna "nerd glasses" wearing punks are ruining the game.

or maybe carolina jazz was right all these years, and being a racist is a good thing
