Millsap not getting traded a blessing??

Think about it, if Sap is traded doesn't that increase the chances Al is resigned. Me personally I'd rather resign Millsap and make him the 6th man off the bench.

With him and Al as free agents, I would guess the jazz would prefer to sign Millsap since he would probably command less money then Al. With Al gone, this allows Hayward to start, and Sap becomes sixth man. Make Burks the backup pg unless we draft Burke or another pg.

Rotation

Mo. Foye rookie
Hayward. Burks Foye
Marvin (he will opt into his final year). Carroll. Millsap
Favors Millsap
Kanter. Favors free agent

Overall I think this is a team that struggles out of the gate, but gets better. With Al out of the picture this becomes a very good defensive team with lots of potential on offense, also with Al gone maybe this gets Marvin more involved in the offense.

I doubt Millsap would sign with chance he is benched. He probably would want assurances that he would start before he signs.

In the case that Big Al leave then I'd bet on Millsap starting at PF and Favors starting at C and Kanter being the main back up. Only way Kanter starts next year is if both Al and Millsap are gone and Utha does not go after another starting big.

If Sap is re-signed, he'll start at the 4 with Favors at the 5. As much as we like Kanter, he still has games where he virtually disappears...and that's against subs. Once Derrick and Enes start facing opposing STARTERS for all their minutes, expect them to struggle a bit, particularly with fouls.

Good point

I think Millsap wants to start. I don't want Millsap to start ahead of Favors. If Millsap was cool with that I'd be cool with Millsap.

Dutch already started a thread on this, but thank you for being so much more important that you needed your very own thread.

I'd rather have Favors as a 5 anyway - he can't guard the stretch 4's and the defensive sets we've seen with Al at the 5 and Favors at the 4 have been ugly.

Favors, Millsap and Kanter can/should all play about 30mpg next year if the subsitutions are done right.

What are the chances this happens?

Milsap is truly a little bitch about this "I am a starter" nonsense. He is obviously not a team player. I hope he is gone Jul 1st. I can see him ending up in Charlotte were he would be a "star" and never worry about not starting again.

I'm fine with no trades going down. I just hope the Warriors continue to falter and we're able to draft Trey Burke this offseason.

Agreed, but I suspect the jazz are fine with starting him, at least for a couple of years. they shouldn't, but they will.

The bottom line is, we need a good 3d big as much as we need a combo guard next year. If we have Bird's rights of Millsap and AJ (and no other team does), which is the case now, since we did not trade them, it give us much better chance to get a really good third big. Either Millsap or AJ to add to Kanter and Favors would be terrific. We would have a great 3 men rotation. Also, since we do have Bird's right for these guys, we could still end up in a sign and trade for one of them. Rather than getting Bledsoe, who is just OK and is an inferior player to either Millsap or AJ, and give up picks in the process, better keep them and have a better chance of getting a good 3d big on the roster, and having a sign and trade possibilities in the off season.

This is for another thread, but we can't have 5 rotational wings if we want Burks to grow. Marvin has a player option (I think) so he's likely here which leaves Carrole and Foye. Given Mo's injury history, Foye is probably going to stay and Carrole will be out UNLESS a trade happens.

To be honest I cannot imagine Carroll not being pursued by the Jazz. He has done nothing but produce, hustle, claw, fight and do anything and everything asked of him. I very much want him to stay a Jazz man.

Yeah I didn't think this out straight....this is a little bit more tricky than I thought. We have to get rid of one of Burks/Foye/Carrole/Marvin. Marvin and Burks stay (Marvin because of the option and Burks because of the potential). So it's down to Foye/Carrole

Mo- PG/SG
2 Backup PGs
Foye- PG/SG
Burks- PG/SG/SF
Hayward- SG/SF
Carrole- SF
Marvin- SF/PF

6 PGs
5 SGs
4 SFs

Carrole might have a chance here.........I think I like the lineup is better if Foye is out. Yeah I'm going to change my thought, I think Foye is not going to be here next year if we do this right and get Burks minutes.

Here's the rotations-
Mo/backup- PG
Hayward/Burks - SG
Marvin/Carrole- SF
