Millsap ready to play either PF or SF

I think the very fact that he's ready and willing to play the 3 should be enough give him a good 25 games there before Utah makes any decisions. If it doesn't work out, his trade value will still be very high considering his production to value of contract.

After seeing Sap at the charity game, I really think he's going to be capable of playing the 3. Granted I'm going off of a few plays that had zero defense and the fact that he looks smaller, but more cut than I've ever seen him.

He's put in the time to make the switch, I just hope it's not going against what his body was meant for.....not to mention the amount of work he'll have to do just to maintain what he's worked so hard to achieve.

We also have the issue of a mental change, especially considering the speed he'll have to defend at the 3.

If Sap can pull it off at the 3, it would open all sorts of options for the rotation possibilities. Talk about mismatches.

Harris/Watson
Hayward/Burks
Sap/Miles
Favors/Sap
Jefferson/Kanter/Okur
Fixed.

That actually seems like a competitive lineup! If the Jazz can get real positive contributions from one of either Burks or Miles, and one of either Kanter or Okur, this could be a good team.

I'm still not sure Hayward should be pegged at SG and not SF, haven't seen enough to say.
Probably the feeling of the coaching staff and FO as well. Best case is Hayward can swing between both positions. That allows Burks to get 30 mins at SG once he's ready and the Jazz can draft a good SF prospect in this year's lottery. Or, Millsap plays against the bigger SF's in the league and Hayward matches up against the smaller SF's who would give Paul problems.

I remember Corbin last year talking about the difference in guarding 3's vs 4's.
He mentioned there is expected contact playing the 4, and you can hand check.
Guarding 3's you can't hand check, or touch like that or you get called on it.

When Sap says he was practicing over the summer to play either the 3, or the 4 I think that is mainly defensively.
I think he will be ok offensively driving, cutting, and shooting so he probably worked less on those things.

I do think it will be hard for him to switch between the 3 and the 4 in the same game defensively.
If he can do both effectively in the same game, then he will be a much better player than he gets credit for.

I think it just depends on the nightly matchups. He isn't going to have a chance to guard some 3's. So we zone it and punish the smaller SF on the other end of the court for a few minutes a night.

I have no argument with that. I still think he will do fine guarding most 3's. He is sound defensively, and when you use the right angles, and are in the right spots you don't have to be as fast. Speed can help fix mistakes, but you don't have to fix many mistakes if you don't make many of them. He will be fine.

I'm ok with the idea of Sap posting up smaller 3's on those nights.

Fixed even better.

Don't like Waston. Would rather give Burks a chance at the point since I see the SG position being occupied by Hayward
