I understand the bird in the hand is worth two in the bush argument. Knowing that we get two picks is reassuring to some, not me. Other teams, beside tax paying teams, will make moves over the next year that create opportunities for teams with cap space. We had some when the day began, not so much now.

Compare the Jazz starters to Portland's team last year. What was Portland's record? Our young guys MAY step up and have a great season. But our worst-in-the-NBA bench is going to give back any leads and then some! Sign vets like Asik, Mayo, etc or bring back Mo, Randy...you're derailing the process. Jazz need to lose and lose and lose. It is the only way Utah is going to add an all-star quality player to the team. .

The Jazz will have the cap space again next year though, and with the big FA list next year, it is likely that teams once again will be trying to make cap room.

As usual core 4 I agree with almost everything you say, but couldn't we save our cap space and still play the young guys. Why do we have to give away 24 million dollars in space for three crappy players and two midland draft picks.

We still have $31M in expiring contracts to trade. Those extra picks can go both ways. What if a Harden-like situation comes up? We can step in, offer an expiring pick and GS' #1. Or wE can package picks to get a starter like we did to get Jefferson. And if nothing presents itself at the deadline? Well, we have a ton of cap space to do some summertime shopping.

I agree and have said that is the only saving grace of the trade. We get back our cap space in a year.

You can't guarantee both those picks will be in the 20's. GS was a fringe playoff team. They haven't gotten better. Dallas, Minnesota, Houston and LA all got better. Portland as well. You will have four teams fighting for the last two playoff spots (Dallas, Minnesota, Portland, Golden State). If Curry goes down, they are out. How's Curry going to respond when he realizes he almost had Dwight, but now because of AI, they are nothing more than a 7-9 seed in the west, and their best chance of improving was sent to Utah?

You are acting like GS is now a top 4 team in the West. Not even close. The Lakers are closer to top 4 than GS.

We were going to have to spend some money anyway to get to the salary floor, right? Might as well get these guys to get to that floor while also getting picks. I don't understand your logic here. We were spending money either way. Why not take these expiring contracts back and get some picks in the process?
