If Chris Davis breaks the record it would be shrouded in suspicion for years until people felt like it was safe to assume he wasn't roiding, or he got caught roiding.
That's just the way it's going to be in baseball when some guy starts putting up power numbers previously unseen in his career.

Watching baseball takes an attention span. Not everyone can hack it.
It's definitely a slower game, but that's a plus in my book. I love how integral the history is, and the myriad ways of analyzing stats. I love the complexity of it. I love that it's never truly over until it's over. As long a you still have a strike left, you have a chance to win.
Watching Lincecum pitch a no-hitter had me on the edge of my seat.
Some folks need constant running, hard hits, slam dunks, and a lot of posturing and tongue wagging... and that's fine. I can respect that baseball is not for everyone.
But I like it.

My best friend is a MASSIVE Blue Jays fan, and simply being around him has warned me very much on baseball. I still know next to nothing about the sport (particularly in terms of analytics) but I can definitely watch it, and have a good time.
Still, it'll always be 1) basketball/soccer 2)hockey for me

"Pitcher stretches. Eyes first base. Spits. Rubs the ball in his glove. Stretches again. Oh look out, he is stepping off the mound. He uses the rosin bag. Steps back on the mound. Glances at first again. This is getting riveting folks. He waves off the first signal. Then the second. Batter calls time. Hits his shoes with the bat and takes a few practice swings. Steps back into the batters box. Pitcher eyes first base again. Nods at the catcher. Here is the wind-up. Oh. Checked the runner on first who appears to be asleep. Gets the ball back. His beard has grown another 1/4 inch folks. Here is the wind-up. The pitch. High and outside, ball 2. The score is 0 to 1 in the bottom of the 6th. Oh the manager is coming to the mound. Lots of drama here folks."
Pretty sad when every single exciting play, and a couple not so exciting, in a professional sports game can be seen in a 20 second spot on Sports Center.
But hey, to each his own. Some people like to watch things that are fun to watch, some like baseball.
