I wonder if Simmons will ever tie Mitchell's record for missed 3's? That's a rookie record that might stand for quite some time. As good as Mitchell is, he hurts the Jazz with his ineffiency from deep. Most of his misses are NOT last second heaves to beat the shot clock. And he also commits way too many TO's. Awards like ROY and MVP dont just go to the player with the highest scoring average.
Assists are just as important since you enabled a teammate to score. Rebounds are important; defense is important.
Simmons recognizes he doesnt have 3Pt range so he doesnt hurt his team by taking low-percentage shots. Donovan at times is a chucker.
Both players generally play to their strengths. Philadelphia is best having Simmons as a triple double player, but not as their top scorer. Utah has needed .Michell, despite his poor shooting at times, to carry the scoring load.
You can argue for either as ROY. But to hurl insults or disparage either really shows one's ignorance.
Personally, im a Jazz fan. I love what Mitchell has done. But i mark him down a notch for his inefficiency. And the fact Simmons can score, rebound or dish out double digit assists puts him ahead of Mitchell, IMO.
Oh my ****ing god!! You're an idiot. Mitchell can do everything Simmons can.
First, he will never have as many misses because he can't shoot!! He's one dimensional in that way as everything is in the paint with him, by the way Kobe is the all time leader in missed fg's. Are u going to sit here like an idiot and tell us all Simmons is better then Kobe?
Yesterday I literally saw Simmons standing at the three point line by himself with his man giving him 12 feet of space. As soon as next year everyone will be doing this, which will make it tougher to get assists and run the offense, which will also slow down Embiid as there will be one extra defender standing near the paint to help take Embiid out of his game. Mitchell won't have that problem, and teams will still be perplexed as ever as to how u stop him regardless of film.
I'm so ****ing sick of people saying Simmons is better because he only averages 4 less points (and increasing as time goes) And averaging a lot more assists and rebounds and blocks.
1. Simmons is 7 inches taller. He should average a lot more blocks and rebounds.
2. Simmons is not a better defender, just taller which means he doesn't have to work as hard as Mitchell to get great results, and makes it easier to recover when he makes a mistake.
3. He's a pg that can't shoot, his game is all about setting his team up, a team with an ultra young talent all over, Mitchell is a sg, his responsibility is to score and shoot threes midrange and drives, yet he's still a very good passer and can do it if he wanted to. With all that said, all of Simmons points come in the paint, of course he will be more efficient then Mitchell.
These are the only arguments I ever hear from Simmons fans. It's called justification for why Mitchell is better. I'm a fan of Simmons game, but I'm starting to hate him more and more everytime I here these unfounded justifications.
You heard it here. It's all about justification with Simmons for Simmons fans.
End of story.
Felt great to finally vent and get this off my chest. It's all about play style and they are as different as can be. The only difference is that Mitchell can do it all and there will never be a clear blue print as to how you stop Donovan Mitchell, period!!
