More Mitchell Love

First Take segment for those that couldn’t tune in:

What a great attitude. I liked this part:

"...everyone's trying to avoid the two heavyweights Rockets / Warriors in the first round. Which team would you rather face...?"

"...for me personally I'm close to Chris Paul so I'd love to get in a playoff matchup with him and go head to head with him. That'd be pretty exciting for me."

He's not looking for the easy way out. Loves a challenge.

ESPN uploaded it to their channel......notice which small segment/question/answer they cut out. Maybe I'm being petty, but we really got to cut that 30 seconds out?

I'm not throwing shade at Donovan. He's been inefficient this season, especially behind the arc. That's a fact. And I'm certainly not a Simmons troll. I got sick of all the insults and name calling from BOTH sides. I'm first and foremost a Jazz fan. But I'm trying to be objective by pointing out strengths and weaknesses of both players. And I am in no way a Simmons homer. I'm not part of the Aussie contingent. I think I have given very good praise to DM in this thread and others.

By contrast, I think this is only my 2nd or 3rd saying it's my opinion Simmons should be ROY. Can't I be a Jazz fan and have a different opinion? Is it also wrong of me to say I don't think Quin should be COY?

Yes, they are different players. TO say Donovan can do everything Simmons can is absurd. Mitchell is NEVER going to average 17/8/8. Donovan will be a higher scorer, because that's his role and Utah doesn't have other shooters. Ingles is as close as the Jazz come, but he's low volume. Well, I guess Rubio of late has turned into a scorer in lieu of looking for assists. To do what Mitchell has IS amazing. But what Simmons is doing (nearly a triple double) is also simply amazing.

Didn't mean to offend. Just thought that pointing to DM"s number of missed threes was a little too salty to be calling others out for pointing to BS"s lack of three pointers.

I agree that there are reasons to love both players. If you want to be a Jazz fan and voice any opinion at all, I'm cool with that. As for me, I'll admit that I like BS. He's a great young player.

DM will probably never match BS"s triple double totals. But one thing that puts DM over the top for me is how fearless he is. If he has a weakness, he attacks it until he has an answer. At the beginning of the year he did a lot of euro step moves. Once defenders started to sag on him to take that away he developed a floater. He has been called on to take games over many times, and done it. The whole time he was adjusting on the fly to defenses keying on him and taking away his go to move. So he developed several! He doesn't have one signature move, he has seven! Give this kid one season to work on his game and watch what he becomes.

Time will tell who has the better career. However, I would not bet against a kid with that kid of drive and will to win. Philly has a great young player. But "Utah got a real gem in (DM).

When I read ‘Mitchell is inefficient’ complaints I just am glad that he’s not having a regular rookie season.

Go look at other rookies who teams are (rightfully) super excited about and tell me how efficient they are. Or go back in time and check. Sorry to tell you but guards don’t come into the league shooting 50%. DSJ is at like 38% or something. And he’ll be a really good player.

I’m not sure how NBA fans are unfamiliar with these concepts but Mitchell is having an all time great rookie season, simple as that.

And while they're at it they should look at Durant, Harden, Westbrook, etc.'s rookie season efficiency numbers...

Donovan at times is a chucker.

If by "chucker" you mean he takes a selfish shot when better options are available, then you must be defining "at times" as one or two shots a game, max. Mitchell has been told to shoot the ball. He rarely shoots just to get a shot in. He isn't the most efficient guy right now, but he's efficient enough, especially in our context and at his age.

This whole Lyles saga raises questions about how good our draft screening and interview process is.

Can't rely fully on interview process. Guys can protect their own interests in interviews. Though publicly it seems Lyles is hurting himself with these interviews.
