What's new

My hot take on what I'd do in the off-season.

You’re telling me there are zero ways? With confidence?

You can always play the what if game, I just can't think of anything that the Jazz could've/would've realistically done to sign Bogey as a FA if they had Smart's salary on the books

Again, by RPM, Gobert was better than both George and Davis this year.

Davis, Kuzma, Green, Caruso, KCP, Howard, Morris is pretty clearly worse than Gobert, Ingles, Clarkson, Conley, Bogey, Bradley.

And yet the Lakers won 8 more games.90% of the difference is LeBron vs Mitchell, not 2-8 on the roster.

Well, RPM isn’t a very useful statistic then. According to RPM, Duncan Robinson is the 12th best player in the league, better than his teammates Bam and Butler.

When taking some social science statistic classes in grad school, a useful exercise when evaluating a finding is this: does it make sense? Occasionally statistics will “prove“ something unexpected (that, after all, is their value). Much of the time, however, an unexpected finding tells you more about the statistic itself then it does about what it is trying to measure. If your analysis tells you that Rudy Gobert is better than Anthony Davis, I think it’s time for a deep dive into that statistic.

Yes ****ing please. And Conley is from Indiana iirc. Get er ****ing done.
Speaking of Griffin, I'm speaking of former summer league and Stars player Eric Griffin, he signed a deal yesterday with a team in Israel. Every where the guy goes he scores in the teens and gets 7-8 boards a game.

If I was GM I’d make three trades and two signings. Trade conley and a 1st for OPJ and White. Trade Gobert for Brown. Trade Bradley, Davis and a couple 2nds for Favors. Resign JC and sign a backup center with part of the mid.

Mitchell
Brown
Bogie
OPJ
Favs

Coby
JC
Joe
FA

Love that roster. Highly doubt we get brown for Gobert though, and favors doesn’t physically have it in him to play full starting min.

Here's what I'd like to see on the floor at all times:

2 scorers - Mitchell and Bojan
2 ball handlers - Joe and Mitchell
1 big - Rudy/Favors (especially to cover up Bojan's lack of defense and rebounding)
1 misc - a 3 and D like Royce, another scorer/shooter like Clarkson, an energy guy like Morgan.

I'm of the opinion at this point Conley would only be effective as a backup.

Plan is of course to see if Giannis doesn't sign his supermax deal, and then move the pieces to sign him. Justin Zanik was the GM there, so the Jazz should have the inside track (ha!) and with Mitchell-Giannis-Gobert as our core, any free agent who is a shooter will be willing to come here for less. Our defense will be #1 in the NBA, and our offense will be rolling as well. They can three-peat and then we'll surround the Stockton and Malone statues with 3 more players and have a complete team in front of the arena.

I dont think it is possible to move enough pieces to create room for Giannis to be signed as a FA. I guess maybe its possible but that would be completely gutting the team on a extremely slim to impossible chance of landing him. If he isnt going to sign his supermax with the Bucks he will get traded next year. I guess you could go after him then and take that chance. Although I dont think we have anywhere near the trade chips to get Giannis, even if by miracle Giannis demands a trade here.

Edit:
But it would be fun to have those three play together! Although I think Giannis fits better with 4 shooters, but I guess the defense would be amazing and we could make it work as long as the other 2 positions were excellent shooters.

How much is Derek Jones Jr going to be looking to get this Off season?

Would he be attainable with the BAE? Or would we need to use our mid-level to sign him?

I’m just wondering if it’s possible to get him any favors both.

I'm guessing somewhere in the 4-6 million per year range.
