My Quarantine

I'll keep a running diary here of sorts of me and my family's quarantine. None of us are sick. We just want to be smart, per the social distancing guidelines and CDC, WHO recommendations. I should have enough supplies for six weeks and possibly as long as eight weeks. My hope is to stay here for a minimum of three weeks and perhaps as long as four, before going back out and buying more food and supplies. I don't want to wait too long (say 4.5-5 weeks) and realize I don't have a ton of food left if finding it becomes difficult. The stores have been madhouses over the last five days or so so I actually anticipate that the worst has passed so far as that goes, or will pass within the next few days. We shall see.

I had to go into school yesterday (teacher's only) to finish planning so remote learning can begin for the students today. I'll have to stay online here and there (no specifics were really given) so that if students have any questions I can answer them. Most are in an app too where they can basically just text me with their questions.

This should be interesting. All three kids are here as my wife tries to work and I do at times as well. It's raining now so we won't be taking them out just yet. Paw Patrol is on the tv now-yay. We'll mix it up with them. TV, coloring, online learning for my oldest, play downstairs, play upstairs in the play room, games, play outside, watch a movie. I wish they were about 3-5 years older each so we could watch real flicks. Animated ones get old after a while and there are only so many regular ones a 5, 3 and 1 year old will watch.

Like I said, we all feel fine. Most have a cough. A dry cough as described in the symptoms. Have had it for 4-5 days too but no other symptoms and like I said, we all feel fine. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm like Donnie here and am asymptomatic. Have had a sort of odd feeling on the left side of my chest for five days now. But I'm not sure how much is in my head, or from crappy eating habits. I think it's neither and that I have a tiny bit of an odd, hollow like feeling there but whatever. I'm not worried about it.

Um why are you quarantined? Have been exposed to someone with it or travelled recently? Or do you just have some symptoms?

Good luck and try to embrace Paw Patrol (or whatever else is out there now for that age) for all it's worth (lol). It's a blessing to have this quantity time with your kids at this time. Make it quality time too. The grass isn't always greener at different stages of thier life and youll never get this chance again. I liked Teen Titans Go if thet can watch that. Sponge Bob made me want to screem though.

**** is really starting to shut down and there’s no reason now to go out so I want to fall off the grid for as long as possible. Like I said in the other thread too, I’ve heard we’re going in lockdown here in the US by Friday.

I've already sent my son to his room four times and the oldest to hers. The last time I told both of them that they're there til lunch. I told them I'm not putting up with ****. I don't want to hear any whining crying or tantrums. And yet...

Oh yeah, by the way, my son just ran down the hallway and went back into the playroom, I can only assume because my wife called him back. So much for being a fortified front. ****in' Judas.

Some random thoughts I've thought of over the last few days.

~I think the Dow goes down to a low of about 16,750 if I had to guess. This could devastate baby boomers if they had minimal savings to begin with if the market doesn't recover quickly enough.
~The economy could be crippled in so many different ways. As GF has mentioned, small businesses in particular could be crushed by this if it lasts 2+ months. Many are probably already in the red. Or damn close to it. What happens to those business owners? And perhaps more importantly, their employees? How do people pay their bills? This scares me. The social/economic ramifications are terrifying, especially if this lingers into late May, June and July. I sadly think it will.
~Unemployment will spike dramatically over the next 3-6 months.
~I think many companies start to lay off but not now. That would be a bad look. They'll do it shortly after this subsides.
~We could've let this run its course and really helped our social security. ****ed up but true. It wouldn't have solved everything but...
~Take out cash. I could see places stop taking credit cards.
