What's new

My vote for the next Utah Jazz head coach is......

billy the kid would be interested in knicks job. or maybe even lakers. he is too high profile of a coach to come to us. that's a sad reality.

we need horny and horny needs us. hope he coaches for us down the road. stockton is too big of a deal to be our coach. he could coach other teams, but not ours. just too big of a name

His disposition is nothing like Hornacek's, which your description would be pretty accurate for. However, even he seems to be doing pretty well for himself as that would have been my biggest concern about Hornacek.

Good point about hornacek.
Hornacek is pretty quiet and not very intense or whatever it is that cy thinks makes for a good coach.

I think it's all about desire with Stockton. If he wanted to do it and put his mind to it, he'd be a HOF coach just like he was a HOF player. The question is, does he want to do it. At this point, it doesn't appear so, but maybe when all his kids are set in their careers, he might be ready.

Donovan would be great, thought not sure how realistic.

I'd add:

Fred Hoiberg
Tony Bennett
Lionel Hollins

Next tier would be
SVG
JVG

Shaka Smart
Gregg Marshall
What is this wired fascination with SVG and JVG? Don't get it. JVG hasn't coached in how many years? And SVG is a bloody sideshow who couldn't get along with his superstar C.

Posting from a phone is so damn frustrating...

Seriously?

I wouldn't say SVG is a bloody sideshow; many, many coaches now understand what a headcase DH is. SVG was jobbed out of a championship with the Heat by Pat Riley. SVG took a 20 something win team and turned it around in a couple of years. Then he did the same with Orlando, taking a team with one star and mediocre surrounding talent to the NBA finals. He would be a huge upgrade over Ty.

The Jazz hate making changes, but if this one needs to be made, they hate outsiders even worse.

I think it will be an inside candidate. As others have said, Alex Jensen would be my choice

Just doesn't seem like the personality that is hard-wired for coaching. Yeah, he probably has the mind for it, but I just don't see the personality. Seems like a dude who would be down for coaching his kid's rec-league team though.

I disagree. The guy is a FIERCE competitor...he's just not a hot head. Good qualities in a coach. I think he'd get the best out of his team and not take any crap.

That said, I don't think he wants to do it right now. Maybe in the future. But right now if it's not going to be Stockton I'm with a few of the others here - Alex Jensen. Up and coming team, up and coming coach.

Billy the Kid once went to Jazz training camp as a point guard and did not make the team. Perhaps he has some love for Utah.
