Twitter is ablaze with accusations that tonight's lottery was rigged. I think everyone can admit that, if nothing else, the optics of this are completely awful: If Anthony Davis forces a trade to LA so he can play with Lebron, and New Orleans then gets the #1 draft pick to start over with, you can call that a magical coincidence. But if the same lightning strikes again with Dallas sending Luka Doncic to LA and receiving the #1 pick in the ensuing draft, now it's become a pattern. This is what people have caught onto.
The other thing worth mentioning is that earlier today, before the lottery, Giannis came out with some whacky and completely unnecessary statement about how he'd be willing to be traded to a state that didn't have state taxes (i.e., Texas or Florida). Brian Windhorst goes on-air and names the Spurs and Rockets as potential trade destinations for Giannis. Then a few hours later, the Spurs move up in the draft for the third year in a row, netting the #2 pick and a star prospect in Dylan Harper that the Spurs can package in a trade for a player like Giannis.
So Luka-to-LA gets smoothed over, and the table gets set for Milwaukee to reboot if they trade Giannis. It's just too poetic. Let's see if the Spurs make a move for a star to play next to Wemby, who is ready to win now.
