According to Shams and KSL, the NBA is targeting July 31 for its restart of the season. I guess the question I have is why bother? Why not head into next season on as normal a schedule as possible.

Everything they are doing is centered on the money (I'm not condemning them). The newest proposal is a 22 team regular season type finish and a 16 game playoff. Each team would play 8 games and be seeded normally... why would they play 8 games? Seems like an arbitrary number right? Nah... if they get to 70 games they get all their TV money... 8 games puts them at 71.money, idiot!!
WHy bother? Those games are gonna get tons of views.. Will give the people some much needed escapism... They're literally recreating scenes from John Carpenters Escape from Precinct 13 out in Minnesota rn..
Even the proposed play-in tournament out west would do massive #'s and get a proper hype job, plus espn will be able to say the word Zion 100x an hour again.

Always follow the money. If I was a homicide detective the first piece of evidence I'd request was the life insurance policy.... every time.
The league wants more regular-season games in order to recover revenue from regional TV contracts. So it seems that every option includes some regular-season games before the playoffs.
Also, the league would need a 2/3 majority of owners to agree to change the playoff seeding to the 1 - 16, cross-conference format. It looks as though just under half the owners currently support that idea. Sorry, Lebron.
They won’t shorten 2021... just start late... later they go they better chance they can have fans again.I still don't understand this money argument. How is a shortened 19/20 AND a shortened 20/21 better on the league financially than a cancelled 19/20 and a full 20/21?

They’ve talked about starting the season around Christmas Day and getting away from competing with the NFL for the majority of their season. This gives them cover to do exactly that.I'd bet cold hard cash that they do shorten it. They don't want to move to like a February-October schedule permanently.
They worked hard to get him set up to face Giannis. Of couse with the budget crunch it will probably be Boston now. Lakers in 6.Here's why they have to bother. They need Lebron to win. That's the only reason.
