Kickoffs in major college football will move from the 30 to the 35-yard line next season, a change intended to keep players safer.

The change was approved this week by the NCAA playing rules oversight panel, which also said the running start by players on the kicking team will be limited to 5 yards.

The panel also approved a rule that will require a player who loses his helmet during a play to leave the game for one play, and there are also new guidelines regarding blocking below the waist and blocking on punt returns.

Players will also be prohibited from leaping over blockers when trying to block punts.

Just gets better every year. Let's just switch to flags and get it over with already.

Yeah, I mean, who cares that the life expectancy of football players is 20 years less than the average American. Once you're past 50, you're too old for anything and it doesn't matter when you die.

I don't understand why so many helmets are coming off. In all the time I played, I never lost my helmet during a play.

Then you're simply arguing that football shouldn't exist? Because I would say the dubious study you're citing in the first place has no way of telling how much the actual on field events contributed to those early deaths. I'm sure it's a mixture of everything(if it's even accurate). The lifestyle that those guys lived, all the muscle buildup products they consumed, the wear over time. Not to mention that study had nothing to do with college football, which of course those numbers would be much higher and wouldn't be able to be spouted off to those looking to appeal to emotion. Life is full of risk/reward. It's obvious that your body is going to take a beating playing football, and that's the risk you take. I played 3 or 4 years of tackle football growing up. Does that mean I'm gone at 72 now instead of 74? How about all the times I've slammed skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, longboarding, playing basketball etc? How much is that going to cost me? I've taken my share of ground balls in the face too. How many years is that worth?

Regardless, these kick teams rarely run live at practice. Taking a couple of shots on the kickoff team every week isn't going to shorten your life. Quit being such a phony. These type of rules diminish the game of football greatly. It's going to be completely unwatchable in a few years and I'm sure you'll be happy.

I have no problems with the rule changes and seriously doubt it will have any effect on my enjoyment of watching college football.
