Netflix recs?

Untamed was like a C- series for the genre. Pretty obvious who it was going to be too.

If you want better similar series, watch The Missing, Broadchurch, The Killing, or the Aussie version of Secrets and Lies. Tangentially, Happy Valley is probably the best of the best but it’s slightly different than the rest and very tough to find in streaming.

Edit: I’d also throw in The Night Of which is elite and Mare of Easttown.

Half an hour into “Untamed” and you got an Aussie (Bana) and a Kiwi (Sam Neil) doing their best to imitate American accent and trying to solve a murder on the Yosemite.

I just can’t help but laugh.. lol..

This is like watching Kate Winslet (English) trying to solve the murder on the Mare of Easttown all over again.
Or Keanu in Dracula.
LOL.. Bana’s Latino sidekick actually got called a “sidekick” by another character in Ep 4 … lol..

Great writing to drive home the point!!!

Unbelievable.
The best, of course, is Big Trouble in Little China, where the white protagonist (Kurt Russell) is actually the sidekick of the little Asian dude, he just doesn't realize it.

Night Of elite? I remember liking it, but I barely even remember it

The British are probably the best at doing these, so agreed on Broadchurch, The Missing, etc.

But The Killing? That’s as the middle of the road as they come.. lol.. I’d put that in the same basket as Bosch, Bosch Legacy, Goliath, or True Detective 2, 3, 4.. I’d put Untamed in there too.

Agreed Mare of Eastown is a step above though.

You have to keep in mind The Missing is really the first of the ilk. I’m not saying other procedurals weren’t done previous to it but it’s over 14 years old and was one of the first to really kick off the run. Since then, the series have become more refined. Better actors and production value. More serious as admittedly, The Killing ends each episode in a very popcorny manner. That said, the first three seasons are excellent up until the end of season 3, which was a debacle.

And lumping seasons 2, 3 and 4 of TD together is ludicrous. Season 3 is very strong. 2 had decent parts and 4 sucked.

I really liked The Investigation on HBO too based off of the true story of the female journalist who met her demise aboard a manmade submarine after the creator hosted her for an interview about the contraption. Superbly done. I had one particular detail about the series that I loved too which I’m not sure others who’ve seen it picked up on.
